Ive been looking for a trade for my ZT 0350, and have had 2 offers which interest me. One for the BM 940 osborne, one for the 710 McHenry & Williams. I am torn... the 940 is the higher valued blade... but the 710 is supposedly a legend in the making.

all help appreciated!

What model of the 710? If it's the D2 go with the 710! i like the blade shape and handle better on the 710 also.

What's your intended purpose for your next Benchmade?

EDC? 940. Heavy outdoor use when hiking/camping/etc? 710.

In the end, you'll get both... like I did. :D I honestly think that these are the two best axis lock Benchmades in their line up. I'm looking at the 950 now.

940!!!:D;)

In all seriousness, the 710 is too big for edc duty, in my (admittedly biased) opinion. The 940 is very streamlined and really disappears in the pocket. And if it happens to be partly serrated, well, then all the better it will be for edc duty, where those teeth can cover a wider range of tasks. It is my guess that many of those who poo-poo combo edges have never actually tried 'em themselves and are just spouting the party line.

+1

Except the combo edge ;)
IMHO those serrations only are destrying the blade line.

710 is ... like a volkswagen. Well built with good material, reliable but booooring

I would go with the 710 - best knife I've owned.
940 is smaller and lighter, if you want a smaller knife, wear suit pants, need something more sheeple friendly, want a more minimalist carry, have small hands, stuff like that.

Look at those beautiful titanium back spacers on the 940 in Steven's picture that's one of the things that sold me on my excellant 943. Which ever you pick it's a win, win!

I think the backspacer is aluminium, and the knife in the pic is the handle from a 943, with a 940 blade that has been moddified to remove the hump from the spine.
;)

... or a modified 943 with a 940 blade with the hump removed from the spine.

:D:D:D

I have both, love the 710 AND 940. If the 940 had G-10 as a regular production model I'd be all over it. Just don't like how easily aluminum scratches and scuffs even if I prefer the 940 for it's size.
