I'll be ordering a new knife soon (my birthday is the 21st) and I'm having trouble deciding between these two.

I'm pretty sure that I either want a BM 940 or a Camillus Dominator, I just don't know which one.

BM 940:

+ Green aluminum handle
+ Axis lock
+ blade shape

- ?

Camillus Dominator:

+ Ti handles
+ S30V steel
+ Tough frame lock
+ ROBO AO

- ?

Can you guys fill in some cons, or add to the pros list?

Thanks :)

I own both and they are very different styles of knife.

The 940 is a light, slim, and elegant gentleman's knife. The grip is adequate, but not what I consider secure, particularly when thrusting. It is a very nice cutting tool. It is not a knife I would recommend for self-defense.

The Dominator is a solidly-built hard use knife. The grip is very secure and provides a full lower guard to prevent the hand from slipping onto the blade. Both the frame and the blade are thicker than on the 940, which makes it a slightly less efficient cutter, but a whole lot tougher. It is an excellent choice for self-defense.

Does that help any?

Thank you. I knew when I posted this that they were really different, I guess I should have said that I already have a heavy duty knife - Chinook II.

Do you think I should get another heavy duty (Dominator) or a more EDC knife (940)?

i have'nt got the dominator, so i can't give advise about it.

I have the BM940, and i simply love it !
It's light, the axis lock is so smoth....
From all my knives, this one is the one i use as EDC the most! :D

I believe only You can really answer that question ;)

I would second all that posted by bquinlan about 940 and Dominator, with one exception: "very secure grip" on Dominator.

My problem with a Dominator is, I can have only one comfortable grip (saber) on it, many of my friends say that too. All other are no more comfortable.

I would try to handle them both before buying, maybe You'll find Your answer fast ;)
BTW - a guard on Dominator may be problematic at some daily workings.

I have the diminator and have been very pleased with it. The only draw back, it has the teflon washers, so they tend to get worn out over time, then need replacing. I ended up using bronze in mine so it wont happen again. Aside from this its a very solid and useful knife. I only strop the blade to touch the edge up, and it has never touched a stone, or ceramic of any kind. Ive been fairly satisfied with it.

What about the swamp rat, rat trap? Now that knife is one sweeeeeet edc!!!

Thanks for the replies.

I handled a Camillus Heat yesterday, which is exactly the Dominator except it is a liner lock, it has Zytel handles, and it has an AUS8 blade.

No one near me carries the 940, so I don't think I'll have a chance to try it out.

I think I'll go with the 940.

Given that you already have a Chinook I think that's an excellent decision. The Dominator is an excellent knife, but it and the Chinook fill very similar niches. The 940 will broaden your options a lot more.

Excellent choice. I EDC a 940 and am very happy with it. The 940 does all I ask of it and a little more. If I need more I have a Chinook II, and a 630. :)
