I am feeling a little bit like a heretic here, but after years of singing the praises of Spyderco products, I am writing to say just how nice a little knife I am finding the above knife to be. It actually is not that small, the blade measures 3 3/8" on my ruler, which makes it illegal in Washington, DC, where I work, with its 3" limit. But the whole knife is so finely designed that it appears much smaller. It is a true "Gentleman's Pocketknife" in a modern iteration. It has modified spear point on the blade and a very distinct swedge to the top of the blade. The blade is 13/16" wide at its widest point, near the base at the thumb stud and holds that for 1 1/4" until the swedge begins on the back of the blade, when it begins a graceful curve down toward the grind line and thence cuts down to the point. The edge is straight for about 2 1/2" and then starts a fair curve up to the point. The scales are anodized aluminum and are heavily sculpted in a series of graceful curves, all leading to a most pleasing effect. Being an Axis Lock, it has release slides on both sides, up near the pivot, which is flush on the right and near flush on the left. The clip is set for tip up carry and is reversible, left to right. The knife is totally ambidextrous, for you lefties and for those who want a weak side carry. There appear to be partial liners of steel, which come out to the edges near the front of the knife, top and bottom. These are given a toothiness for traction, a very nice touch that is not intrusive.
The function of the knife so far has been absolutely flawless. Openning has been as smooth as the proverbial baby's bottom and lock-up has been absolute. It releases only when requested, and then does so easily. I have not often tried to flip the blade by holding the lock release back and flipping, but I have a few times and it does work. I don't recommend this, however. I have had no accidental opennings in my pocket, the blade detente seems to do a good job of holding it closed. The 154CM steel in the blade seems to be holding up well to the uses to which it has been put. Folks, I like this knife!
Wishes or suggestions come down to one; replace the thumb stud with a hole. I MUCH prefer holes to studs, even if it were to mean a slight bulge in the otherwise oh so svelte blade.
