Hi all!

I am new to blade forums but not new to being a knife fanatic. I have been reading around various forums about the omega spring breaking on axis locks. A lot of people argued that it is rare. Anyways... It happened to my Osbourne after 1.5 years of daily use. Not bad I guess but still a pain when you use it all the time. I ended up using a guitar string for now, and will be sending it in to benchmade when I build up enough courage to part with it for a while. Has there been many other people recently with the spring breaking? I know I am bringing up a topic that has been posted in the past... I just really wanted to show what my guitar string replacement spring looks like for those that want to try it. It seems pretty good but it is still not quite as strong as factory.

You only have one knife??

Send it to benchmade..

Buy another something that is within your budget till it comes back.

Just a heads up, you may have voided Benchmades warranty by disassembling the knife. I'm not sure so can someone else confirm?

And nice job with the guitar spring. I'd heard of those but never actually seen one

30 thou piano wire gave me a stronger than normal omega spring, I like it that way.

Thanks for posting the pic of the complete new spring beside the broken one! When one of mine breaks I am going to make new ones and compare their lifespan to the OE benchmade versions.

I might have to try the piano wire. I can tell the gauge of the guitar string I used isn't quite as strong as stock. I have read that benchmade will usually still honor their warranty even if I opened it up. I think if they didn't people would stop buying them..

Every Benchmade I have sent in was disassembled by me, and they all got warranty work. They put that on their so idiots don't send in a bag of parts, or break something because they do t know what they are doing and claim it is a warranty issue. If you are competent at the knife don't worry about it, if you are not then don't bother lest you screw something up.

Have you tried just asking them for new springs? That's what I did here (Sweden) and I had them as soon as our supplier received a new shipment from BM.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the info. Haven't had to take apart my Grip yet but you never know...

This is what I would recommend as well.

Good luck either way.

Be mindful that that they really really suck to put back together. If you aren't familiar with the assembly you can be in for a pretty bad day.

I don't think anybody would really have trouble with a basic axis lock take down and re-assembly. But, the assisted ones are a complete beast to get functioning well after disamembly. Every single screw out of like 12-18 screws has to be turned just right to get back to factory assisted smoothness. would not recommend taking apart an assisted or auto.
