Benchmade 940 price?

So I want a 940. But I can't decide between the regular model and the carbon fiber model. Is it worth the price increase? Is the 940-1 going to drop in price? If I can't pick between them I will just go with a 710.

Get a standard 940 if price concerns you. It's a knife, not jewelry but if the cosmetic difference in the handle material makes a difference to you go with the CF.
Or just get an Opinel # 8 , which cuts as well and sharpens easier, and spend the difference on a steak at Capitol Grille.

The prices on all Benchmades are the same +/- a couple bucks everywhere. The only way to possibly find one for a significant discount is to go to a local knife store in your area or a gun shop that carries Benchmade knives and give them your best negotiation pitch.

Myself having a strong preference for carbon fiber, I can see the price difference between the two justifiable, especially with the upgraded steel in the equation. For that reason, I wouldn't expect the price to drop all that much in the near future. That being said, I may just have to suggest you go with your secondary choice of the 710. I find the handles of the 940 a bit too small, and the 710 is perfect for me. Not to mention, you get a near perfect blade to handle ratio, and useful recurve, at that.

I have the 940-1 in my pocket right now.....so you know my preference. The lighter weight is nice, and the lack of purple coloring on the spine is another plus. (It doesn't hurt that I am a big fan of carbon fiber either!)
The big difference is the steel though. The s90 sharpens up nicely and holds a wicked edge. For me it was easily worth the extra cost.

Worth it, just bought one. Would buy again. I would say it excels as a lightweight EDC, although you may find equals, you'd be hard pressed to find a better option.

I bought a 940-1 a week ago. The regular green and purple was on my radar for a long time. Then, the prices went up. I still wanted it but it got pushed back a little. I guess it's luck. If I would have got the green one, then I would be upset. I could always sell it but I use my knifes and used doesn't get the greatest return. After watching some videos on the new one the decision was made. Ya, it costs A LOT of money for such a lightweight knife. It ate basically a years budget! But, to me it was worth it!

Watch the smokeater(sp) and jdavis videos on s90v. After nine feet of rope it still cuts phone book paper, even if just barely. I sharpened mine and have made every excuse to use it. Hell, we just ate a family dinner cooked with it alone. After everything it's just as sharp. Also, s90v isn't hard to sharpen if you've got diamond. From factory dull to literally hair splitting in about 15 minutes and that's reprofiling the blade too. I am mostly (whispers) a Spyderco guy. I love their knives and have carried one for years. This benchmade will not come out of my pocket soon! I still have gripes with BM but this proves they are far from down and out! If the steel doesn't sell it, the handles will. I have a 940-1 photo shoot thread in the BM forum that anyone on the line should check out. It's gorgeous!!!! Some people buy bling watches, shoes, purses, tv's, ect. that are just becuase they enjoy them. All shoes are fine to walk in, but some are for running. All tv's show a picture, but some are HD. All purses hold things, but some look great doing it! The 940-1, and yes the 940, are such great knives that to me justifies the price. Osborne forever!

If it helps your decision, the C/F, Aluminum, and Titanium models weigh 72, 82, and 92gm respectively. I am a sucker for premium steels. So I would go for the CPM S-90-V.View attachment 453020
