Hello everyone. I just recently got a Benchmade 940 in a trade, which I've designated as my "project knife". How are some ways I can customize it? I'd like to do anything from pocket clips to screws to backspacers to scale to blade to finishes.
I'd really like to anodize the clip purple (with electricity, not heat) but I have no idea what solution it should soak it.. HELP!?:jerkit:

I re-scale a lot of my production folders and have thought about doing the 940. I haven't yet because I consider it to be a pretty challenging one.... The liners are nested and partial, requiring the inside to be milled, and the screws which hold the two slabs together are threaded directly into the aluminum. It's not impossible, but you'd have to either get threaded inserts or stand offs just to make new scales. Also, one thing to remember is that in order to get good function, all holes and counter sinks must be drilled perfectly. You'd be amazed at how precise these need to be in order to get them to fit correctly. I'm pretty sure it uses a steel clip, which can't be anodized, but you could try using cerakote or another baked on finish. You could also try buying a titanium one from a knife supply shop and do heat anodizing. Try searching how to anodize aluminum and you'll find out that you need a fair amount of equipment to do it. Also, know that you will make mistakes and your first few projects probably won't be as good as you wanted. It's all about practice and learning what does and does not work. I would suggest watching a lot of how to videos and digging through the threads in this section. Modding knives is a very rewarding hobby IMHO, but it also requires patience. Have fun!
