Newbie kinda question here. Thinking of getting a 940 or 940-1 knife. Are the barrel spacers and backspacers interchangable between them? Do I need different screws for each type?

Thanks for the replies

The backspacers used on the Aluminum and Carbon Fiber scales are skinnier than the stand offs used on Titanium scales and the later model plastic scales.

So a modern 940 with aluminum scales should use the same "internals" as the carbon fiber 940-1....correct? So if an backspacer or barrel tube is good for one it is good for the other.

It’s a little complicated. The top knife is C/F and has a backspacer like the Aluminum knives. There are T-nuts in the R/H scale, and the 2 frame screws go all the way through the knife.
The middle knife, which is like the 940-1, has threaded stand offs and uses 4 frame screws (2 from each side).
The bottom Titanium knife has unthreaded stand offs and T-nuts in the R/H scale. It utilizes 2 frame screws which go through the knife.View attachment 2275802View attachment 2275803View attachment 2275806

This is an excellent explanation. Exactly what I needed to see and know about. Seems to fall into the "all depends" category of things. I am looking into buying a gently used 940-1 carbon fiber model. Looking into the various options of spacers and backspacers. I thank you kind sir for the help. Are you in the parts business? Just wondering from your user name.

For the options readily available, there is the 940 (green AL with purple standoff), the 940-1 (blue barrel spacers), and the 940-2 (green barrel spacers). You can switch the green and blue barrel spacers of the -1 and -2, but cannot switch barrel standoffs with the spacers on aluminum scales. I wouldn’t worry about the titanium versions since they’re so rare, but if you ever got those versions I would leave it alone.

Right but he's looking at a "gently used 940-1 carbon fiber model" so the Rockscale would work for that?

If I have any parts, it’s because they were left over after reassembly. Most of these 940/941 screws are #2X56TPI and available from knife supply outlets. My 940-1’s are identical in construction to the middle knife in the photos in post 4.
This is a Titanium model where they skipped the T-Nuts and tapped the R/H scale for the frame screws.View attachment 2277011
