Hey guys I'm thinking about purchasing a benchmade 940 or 943. I can't decide on which one to go with. Do any of you have experience with both? Which one would be better for edc? Thanks

Between the two they look to have the same weight, blade length, and OAL. The only difference looks to be the blade shape. For an EDC knife I would prefer the 943 over the 940 because I wouldn't find much use for the finer point of the 940.

I like the sharper point of the 943 because it's better for food prep (on the fly). The 940 is better for skinning, but I don't do a lot of that. The 940 tip is stronger (for prying), but I don't do a lot of that either.

I read another post of yours where you said benchmade would put a different blade in your knife for $60. Could I buy a 943 and send it to them to put a 940 blade in? I heard bm wouldn't do this. Just wondering if you have any experience with this? That's definitely what I would do if they will do that.

Don't you mean the 943 has a finer point?

It is pretty much an aesthetic choice. The bellies/grinds of the two models are identical to my eye so slicing and other cutting jobs aren't going to get done much differently. The difference in blades occurs above the cutting edge at the tip. I don't want/require the minor penetrating benefit of a super fine tip so I sold my 943 and have two 940s now.

940 here.. I think it just looks cooler and prefer the beefier tip. Great folder!!

They're both equally great knives. It's simply a choice between thicker reverse tanto tip or thinner pointy tip. Or, do you like black or green. Pick your pref. and enjoy a great knife. No wrong answer with these choices.

The benchmade black coatings aren't the toughest around and tend to get beat up in my experience, and since its stainless I'd go satin.

What finish would you guys recommend.

Whichever one strikes Your fancy. This is going to be Your knife, don't buy it because other people will like it or think it is cool. The purchase of one over the other isn't much aside from which you like the looks of better.
It is pretty much an aesthetic choice.

Example: A lot of people Really like the benchmade 810, and I wouldn't turn down an m4 version, but its just too large for me to edc so I wouldn't likely buy one. Others may love it and own nothing else, but it doesn't do it for me, so I am not spending my money on it.

Buy the knife that You want to own. If you still can't decide, flip a coin with one side designated to each option over a series of flips. If you secretly hope for one or the other while the coin is in the air then you know what you Really want. If you don't secretly hope for one or the other, go with what the coin decides.

I agree with NJBillK. This is for you. Here's what I've learned from collecting A LOT of knives. If you are leaning even slightly toward one or the other...go with your gut...you won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys. Well I think I'm going with the satin finish. And I think I like the 940 blade shape better but I don't like the green. I like the black handle of the 943 better. So that's where I'm at. lol

I guess I just need to swap a handle or blade with somebody.lol Will benchmade help me out if I send a handle in? Will they put a different blade on?

They'll do warranty work but they won't put the wrong blade on it for you. You'll have to buy both and swap them or find someone willing to trade you blades.

Then hold out, get the 943 for now and wait to find a swappedblade/body 940 on the exchange. They pop up every now and then. Or just go with the 940, you would probably be surprised to know that the color scheme grows on you. A lot of 940 owners will agree, hell, it was that way with me.
