Hi,

I'm considering either the 940 or mini loco. I really like the 810 but it may be too big to edc.
Would the mini loco work well for someone with xxl hands? Also, for the price, should I be satisfied with the s30v they both have? Finally, would I have a better chance of getting a mini loco with great fit and finish rather than the 940. Just seems like I've noticed a lot of complaints regarding the 940.

Thanks for the help,
Jason

I wonder sometimes about these size questions. I have M-L hands and have found a few knives that give me problems. The ZT 0450 comes to mind. The couple I handled had sharp detents, so with any pressure on the lockbar they wouldn't fire. I couldn't keep my finger off of the lockbar to save my life.

That said, when it comes to simply using the knife as a knife, not flicking it open and closed in front of the TV, I rarely find size to be an issue. I can easily manipulate and could perform most cutting tasks with a loose utility blade. Seems like the relative size should be geared more toward material to be cut or pocket depth.

As for your comparison of the two, they're both great knives. Whenever the question is 940 vs. Anything though, the 940 usually wins. Sure, we've all seen more complaints about the 940, but we've seen more 940s. I'd bet the sales have been 1000 - 1 between the 940 and mini loco.

S30v is fine. Get whichever one you fancy the most. There's no wrong decision here, but know that the 940 is a legend for a reason. It's a great knife.

I own both and they are IMHO two completely different knives. They are both great in their own right. However as with most items your preference is key. Personally I think the 940 would fit your hand size better. Are there any knives you love the feel of to help better understand your preferences?

In regards to fit & finish.... I don't think one would have an advantage over the other. They're both coming from the same factory and Benchmade has had some QC issues recently. My 940 that I bought new in February with a January 2018 production date on the box came to me with a blade that was off-centered. Nick Shabaaz has a video on the Mini Loco where he also points out QC issues. It may be luck of the draw.

I've never owned an 810 or an 818 but the 940 is an excellent EDC knife even for xxl hands. You don't need to search hard on the web to confirm that its a quintessential EDC.
