Benchmade 940

Stonewashed aluminum handles? No.
Plain g-10? No.

There have been CF handles, bolstered by timascus or mokume.

There have been pimped and custom handles made, though I haven't seen stonewashed aluminum, I did a mirror polish on mine and it was either Keyman or Deathofallthings that did the CF handles.

The 940 has been modded countless times, so I probably have missed a factory variant or several and mods.

What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to find a 940 that is similar to the 530 I have which I took the clip off, added a lanyard, and can carry it without having any signs of wear or scratches on it. Even with my massive key ring with all types of gadgets on it, the 530 shows no signs of wear when carried this way.

I am also curious as to whether or not this type of variation would effect the amazingly smooth opening and closing of this knife.

These are my first Benchmade knifes as I could not afford them in the past and always considered them to be one of the Cadillac's of pocket knifes.

At this point not without a (rather hefty) price.

There are several nuts who would love a g-10 version.

Aluminum will gall and scratch even if you have it bead blasted or stonewashed.

And like I posted previously aftermarket work is not cheap.

Correctly made scales of any material will allow for the smoothness inherent in the design to continue.

:D yes I would!

Aluminum is crap IMO, sorry to all those who think its the bees knees.. Shows wear on the first day.. I like polished/anodized Ti and I'm really liking Grivory for the lack of wear..

My 530 has been banging around IWB, and been used every day.. No visible wear.

G-10 & Grivory/Noryll GTX is where its at if you dislike heavy wear & tear.

The 940-81 came with silver/twill G10 handles.
Don't think any were SW.

Thank You .. I did a search and saw a picture of one without a Damascus blade. It looks like they would be very hard to find. I should have saved the link to show it to everyone, but I forgot to. A 940 with a Benchmade 950 Rift Osborne black and white swirl handle design would be awesome !!

940D2CF or one of the other CF variants is the closest you will find. You're looking around 400 dollars new in box condition though. Also it's not something I'd want to drill a hole in for a lanyard.

Some custom scale maker may be working on filling this gap in the market in the future... but it will be a little while yet. ;)
