I've heard this a great little knife so I bought one today. Small, slim, looks well made, perfect blade length for EDC. I opened and close it a few times and realized the blade is loose and shows movement from side to side. None of my other BM Axis lock knives does this (710, 551). I'm going to take it back to exchange it tomorrow, but I want to know if this is common with the 940. I tightenend the hex nut and it helped, but then it quickly loosened again. I did this a few times and realized its not going to help. Is the 940 prone to this problem? Should I get a different knife? Thanks.

Sounds like it might be a stripped or damaged torx screw. I had the same problem with an 806. After asking here, many gave the advice to apply the blue medium strength loctite (available at Loew's, Homedepot) to the threads of the screw. I did that and set the desired tension (you may have to reapply the loctite to get the tension wanted). It worked fine. This is not a standard problem with the 94x knives (I've a few and never had that problem with either).

If you don't feel like experimenting, I'd just return it for another one. Hope this helps.

I dont know man...I thought it was a good knife and bought mine 2 days ago... from newgraham so it isnt here yet. I got the 943 though but its basically same knife... I went and checked one out at the store before I bought mine and I really liked it at the store. Keep it posted and let me know what happens. thanks

Its probably just this knife. Hey, QC isn't perfect and since I bought it locally, I'm just going to take it back. The loctite would most likely fix it. I'll report back on the next one tomorrow. They are cool little knives and I love my 710 and 551. These axis lock things are addictive.

I've got one and have never seen that problem in any of the 940s I've seen/handled. You probably just got a bad knife. BTW the 940 is probably the BEST BM, excluding the 710 and 806.

My 940 arrived from NG last week. The blade is tight, no play at all and it operates very smoothly. Impressive knife.

Well, I exchanged the 940 yesterday for the same knife. This one is perfect. I am amazed at how light, small and easy to handle it is. Perfect size for what I need and a real quality knife. The other 940 was just defective and I suspect as someone said the one Torx screw was stripped. I'm glad they had a nother 940 in stock becuase I really like this knife. Thanks guys.

Makes you wonder. Someone buys something, tinkers and breaks it, returns it and the store puts it back on display for the next chump. This must happen quite often. Glad they exchanged it for a new one. The weight also amazed me; it's an ultralight.

That crossed my mind also. My other Benchmades have been flawless from the getgo, no problems, just a great knife out of the box. I made it clear to them that the product was defective and needs to go back to Benchmade and they agreed. Yes it is a very light knife and quite attractive. I don't think I've ever seen a light, slim package like this with a decent mid-size blade.

TB383. You will LOVE the 943.

Now imagine how us bastids with the carbon fibre limited edition feel. :) It rides like it's not even there.

Mine is one of my top EDCs - I carry a 730 for REAL heavy duty stuff, and a 770 limited for extra dressy. I keep thinking of adding a 943 to the lineup.

I've had the 940 for a few days now and it has become my EDC. I can't put this knife down. This is the easiest opening knife I have. The blade is perfectly aligned and the lockup is firm with no play or movement of the blade. Its so light and slim, I forget I have it in my pocket. I like it so much I may get another.

i have got 940 since nearly one year now and it has become my EDC over all my other knives!
It's light, handle is not in cheap "plastic", size of the blade seems perfect...
Now if they could do it in VG10 or some of the new steels, they would be close to perfection !
