Benchmade 940

I have a 943. It is a great knife. The handle really fits my hand well, and helps to hold the knife diong a variety of cutting tasks. I also like this knife because it is light. I don't really even notice that it is in my pocket.

Out of the box, it was pretty sharp, but I reprofiled it on my sharpmaker and now it is scary sharp, and it holds this edge very well (mine is in 154CM).

The only (minor) negative thing that I can say about this knife is that the handle finish isn't quite as durable as similar finishes on my microtech's. BUT, as long as you don't try to pop open beer bottles using the handle, you shuold be fine.

I love my 942 I think its a fantastic edc and in my hand is comfortable. I like the blade design and overall look and feel of the knife. I agree that the handle is not as durable as I'd like it to be however its a sweet knife and I do recommend it.

I have a 943. It is the smoothest folder I own. It's almost ridiculous. My NKP co-workers were even impressed. It sometimes gives my Spydies a run for their money. These models also recently received a steel upgrade(my only issue with mine), so you should seriously consider one.

I received a green 940 plain edge for christmas, and it is my favorite knife. The axis lock is awsome, the blade is different and yet very functional, lastly the knife looks nice, not like every other military, self defense knife. The only gripe I have is the clip is black and starts chiping, wearing instantly. So I switched it out with a silver clip and it looks good in my opinion. I don't think you'll be sorry if you buy one.

I've got one of the green ones too and it's definitely a nice knife. Smooth as butter action with a long slender blade. Very nice.

Thanks for the comments - I ordered one - It is a nice slim knife - very good for EDC. Cheaper on E-bay or New Graham( e-bay $3 less than New Graham)

Are you getting S30V or 154CM from eBay? Small difference, but there is a difference. IIRC, 154CM was developed for turbine blades, S30V was developed for cutlery.

The 940 is a great knife, very smooth action and solid lockup. There are only two things I dislike about mine - the handle is not big enough for me, it feels like there is no room for my pinky, making it not as comfortable to hold (The Ares, however, is a totally different story.) Also, the aluminum handle scratches easily, it scratches the coating off of my cell phone (can't put them in the same pocket), and finally the clip coating is not very durable either.

If you can look past these minor things, you will end up with one of the best Benchmades for EDC, IMO.

I have a 940S. I find it to be the ideal size for EDC. It is slim but not flimsy, and I love the green! It is big enough at 3.4 in for any EDC task, but not too huge--sheeple friendly and a good mix between a Gent's knife (like its cousins the 960 and 770) and a big folder...

I got my 940 from Roshi, modded by Chax: http://www.chaxknives.com/023Benchmade940Osborne.html

It's a sweet office-carry-in-the-khakis kind of knife. Slim, and light, you pretty much forget it's there until you reach for it. The green color on the standard model helps make it more sheeple friendly, and the reverse tanto sweep makes the knife appear less threatening.

It wouldn't be my first choice for a hard use knife only because the same quality that makes this knife fit so well in the pocket, its slimness, isn't a plus when you really need to bear down on the handle. This is not a reflection on its quality of manufacture, or how tough the knife really is.

The version I have is plain edge. If I had to do this again, I might get a combo edge, but that's me.

I have a 943BT and it's really smooth. I also manage to get a hold of a 941BT1G. Very cool with the gray two tone handles.

The aluminum handle scratches easily - from keys etc in the pocket. A definite design problem and flaw of what is an otherwise great knife.
