re-profiled my 943 this weekend that i just got a few days ago. Surprisingly the edge was not very sharp at all from the factory, would hardly cut paper. Set up the edge pro, factory bevel was around 26 deg, seems awfully steep? Re-profiled to 22-23 per side on the edge pro, and wow it took forever! My para military 2 s30v sharpened up quick on the edge pro but the s30v steel on the 943 seemed to be very, very hard. Even on the 120 stone, which has made quick work of re-profiling other s30v blades, took a long time to finally work up a burr on the 943. Anybody else notice this with bench made?

My experience with the 943 was just the opposite. Edge retention was far behind my Spyderco S30V.

The only Benchmade I have in S30V is a Megumi but I found it to be similar to what you describe. It was not as sharp out if the box as my other Benchmades and the edge was a bit steeper as well. It holds an edge much better than ANY other S30V blade I've used.

Hemi, question. You say 26 was steep then you made it steeper by taking it down to 22? What gives? The more you lower the angle the steeper or more vertical the bevel, right? I.e a straight razor is 0, conversely the higher you take the angle the less steep or flatter the bevels becomes, say you took it to 90 per side or 180 inclusive then the bevel would be flat which is not steep. Just asking

Different point of view I guess, when you're using the edge pro your blade is almost horizontal... If you look at it from that perspective the 26 is steeper than 22.

Exactly, mis use of some words on my part. I was thinking of a higher degree angle as a steeper angle
