Benchmade 943 vs 940-2?

I'm not a huge fan of metal handles, but I've had a 943 in my rotation for ages and I can't really say anything bad about it. The texture on the anodizing is quite nice and it's held up very well through the years.

So I'd stick with the original aluminum handle on the 940/943.

For me, it would be the 943, without hesitation. Why? Because it's for me, and it's the one I prefer based on aesthetics. (In this particular case, it's all about the blade shape)

View attachment 929344 I like the shape of the 943 blade. The 940 blade is available in S-90-V, the 943 only S-30-V. The weight difference is about 10gm. About 81gm. for the Al model and 71gm. for the G-10 model.

I have both. I ended up swapping the 943 blade into the G10 handles. For such a small knife and thin handle, I preferred the hybrid's overall package, and prefer the pointy tip and slightly longer belly of the 943 blade. I also thought that the beefier grind on the 940 would do the aluminum handles more justice, and sometimes carry that. Full disclosure, IMO, I find that even on the small, thin knives the weak point (for me) is my hand, not the blade. Because of that, I started carrying thicker handled knives, but still prefer the thinner blades.

940-2. My green anodized 940 got scratched up a bit over the years, and I don't abuse anything I own. The G-10 doesn't show normal wear, at least not for me.

It all depends which blade style you like better. Personally I prefer the 940 “reverse tanto” style blade to the 943 which I always felt had too weak a tip.
