Hi...I can't find a pic or reference to these models... Are they the Emerson designed ones??? They are not on the search at Benchmade's websight... Any info would be very welcome...thanks...jared...out.

Those and the 9700, the auto version, were Emerson designs, yes. Big, stout liner locks with black G10 skins and heavy tanto blades (chisel-ground, as I recall, but don't quote me on that) in ATS-34. Black coating was optional. You could get either a plain or a combo (partially serrated) edge. They had the classic disk on the spine for one-handed opening and a good pocket clip set up for the tip-down carry configuration that God intended for convential folding knives.

BM discontinued them maybe three years ago. They still show up in the various sale venues frequently. They are, if nothing else, very sturdy knives.

Here's a pic of the BM version of the Emerson CQC7. Top three are the 970 series. Bottom two are the larger 975 series. Good knives as far as tanto-style folders go.

Emerson Knives now make the CQC7.

For a short time Benchmade also made a run of the 970 with Titanium blades called the 970ST. The edge had a carbide coating to help retain the edge in the soft titanium.

Had one, trust me, it did not work as advertised.

I just made a deal to trade for one...what was the negative about them??? I'm going to trade anyway, as I have already made the deal, but I'm real curious what your experience was???

Emerson now makes a version with nicer scales, shipped tip up as God really intended, w/ the option to switch to tip down for the unwashed and the unchurched:D
They are both sturdy, but the present day Emerson CQC7 is the equivalent of the 970 size wise, the 975 is obviously bigger and worth a second look. Emerson also makes a mini version.

I prefer my BM970 to a more recent Emerson that I found lying at a dealer. Not much between them though.

There was also a BM 970 version with the HK USP piston on it. The blade was black colored.

BM made left handed versions of the 970 & 975.
