Hello
Even though they are not exactly the same size, I am considering getting one of these 2 knives to carry when I go hiking

Which one would you recommend and why?

The Adamas is roughly two ounces heavier, if that matters for your load out.

Of the two, I'd pick the Adamas as it looks like it will fulfil the varied and perhaps harder use tasks better. The Military is lighter and slicier, but I'd be concerned about the tip.

Neither would be my first choice for hiking, but of the two I’d choose the adamas. The new ones in cruwear are awesome.

I’d go with the military. The Adamas is a hard-use knife and a tank. A great knife but the military carries light and slices like a dream.
100% agreement with Paratrooper06 comments.

I went with Military many years ago, and think same today.
RE the B.M. Adamas ..., I personally think the Contego is a much better knife, as a comparison to the Military (own both currently, Adamas is long gone).

Your choice, should be based on your specific intended application NOT others ;-) (Adamas & Military are very different in specification and use)

For hiking, hands down the military. The adamas is a pig. Awesome, but half again the weight of a millie. The millie is a much better cutter, the adamas is a hard use, beefy folder. I like the handle of the adamas a lot but it's not a lightweight or small carrying knife and not the best at just cutting, though it performs quite well still.

Both a very good knives, but for very different reasons.

I always like to caution people about the contego as the handle isn't for everyone. Try to handle one in person if possible. I hated the knubs around the bottom of the handle. I really tried to like it, but it jjst didn't work for my hand. I think it's a love or hate kind of handle.

bikerector, speaks truth !!

I would add, the entire perimeter of the scales should be dressed lightly (edge sharpness of scales distressed) as they are fairly sharp IMO. In my mind, it's better to have a little extra, that can be easily taken down, than a handle left wanting (not enough material). I am currently dealing with a handle left wanting (a little more material) on a small fixed with pinned scales :-/

For long-distance, several-day hiking trips (Appalachian trail style), I would go with the Military. I expect the Adamas would cause chafing and you will start to notice the weight after a while.

For just walking around in the woods for a few hours, I don't think it will matter.

If you plan on doing anything abusive to the knife while you are out there or you want more of a survival tool, go with the Adamas.

They are both excellent in their own way (as long as you get the new model Adamas).

I appriciate a folding knive that I can open and close one handed without using my teeth.

therefore my vote is MILITARY unless the Adamas is one hand open and close.

if that's the case then go with the lighter one.

For hiking, a shortish fixed blade would be better..
Much more strength and abilities.

I love my Cru-Wear Adamas but I have no idea what I would want one for on a hike. What exactly do you plan on doing while hiking?

These are two very different knives that are good for very different tasks.
