What are your thoughts on the new afck with the axis. It sure looks like a nice knife. What do you think of black coated blades? Thanks

I have had one for about a month now.

Fit and finish are great.

Blade locks up nice and tight with no play. I love how it can be tip up or down.

Left or right handed.

I say go for it.

Have you done a SEARCH here yet?

I did much research before I purchased mine.

Looks like a nice blade, a friend of mine have one. Although I admit it that I found their G10 isn't grippy enough, when compared to the Spyderco Military.

It's one of BM's classics, if not THE classic BM. The newer models being shipped have bronze bushings and are drilled for tip up/down and right/left carry.

I'm not crazy about the black BT coating. D2 is close enough to stainless steel that the coating should not be necessary. BM has offered the new 941CFD2 with a beautiful mirror-polished D2 blade--so it can be done. Maybe in the future??

In sum: a legendary, full-sized folder with a terrific pedigree and some state of the art goodies tossed in for the same price.

Knife11: It's real tough to say which is better. I would suggest you try to handle both and then make a choice. I'll go slightly out on a limb and say that maybe for general purposes, the 710 might be a bit more suitable. Both are top-rate knives.

The 806 and 710 are designed for two totally different things. The 806 is a "fighting knife" while the 710 seems to be designed more for utility.

Plus, the 806 has a larger handle, which some people don't like. The 710 is a bit more compact.

I have a 710 but I've never handled the 806.

Things I like about the 710:
Double liners
M2
Blade length

Things I don't like:
Blade style (too skinny)
Thumb stud (rather have the hole)
BT2 coating

So is the 806 the knife for me? (or emil ;))

The 806 D2 is totally ambidextrious. Its bowie clip point is the most usefull blade style for me. Its strait edge rather the the slight recurved of the 710 is a bit easier to sharpen, especially if a flat stone is what is only available at hand. The 806s large finger groove allows for quick indexing for the "tactical" minded. I find the hole opener is much quicker and positive to locate to deploy the blade. Finally, I find the D2 easy enough to sharpen. The M2 on the other hand is pure evil.

The axis lock is fun to play with. It is a very quick opening knife and could probably come close to matching a waved knife in how quick it can be opened. The handle shape may not be for everyone but it is fine with me. Although the g-10 is not as 'grippy' as the spyderco millie's g-10 scales, it should not be a problem. I love the option of being able to switch the clip to either side of the handle.
