I just have to give this design its credit, and thanks to Benchmade, Spyderco, and others who helped design this knife. It's just that i've been through so many darn tactical/fighting types, you know what i mean, but i always go back to my AFCK's, the design is great. In my humble opinion, the AFCK is the best utility/self defense knife there is, even when comparing to customs.

Frank, I definitely gotta admire you as someone who isn't afraid to have an opinion. Just for the record though, "best" is a pretty strong word around these here parts. Good luck.

Time for me to vacate ground zero.

I think there really can't be a 'best' tactical knife, as each user requires different things from a knife. As I've said before, the AFCK doesn't fit my hand well at all, so it would be a bad choice for me. I do admire the design, though (I was going to buy one of each size, until I actually handled them and found that none were comfortable in my hands). Still, stating an opinion like that took some guts (although I'm sure many will agree with you).

AFCK doesn't fit my hand as well as the Stryker does. AFCK seems like a good knife though, I've handled a couple but never really wanted to buy one. I might get one after I get my Stryker. The design on the Stryker just is perfect for my hands. Tanto point might not be as utilitarian though...

Frank, I have the BM AFCK and the Axis 710.

IMHO I don't know how anyone can choose the AFCK over the 710.

I did like the AFCK best before the 710 came out.

Just my opinion.

Hello RGRAY, this is what you should do, i did it, and it scared the crap out of me, one of my fellow friends taught me this, when choosing a fighter/utility knife.
Pour cooking oil or baby oil all over your knife, blade, handle, then all over your hands, now get your Axis lock model 710, and go do a medium-heavy thrust toa tree outside, or any hard/wooden object, now do it with your AFCK, i bet you'll want your AFCK instead. This is extreme, but it should only be done with a design like the AFCK's. or even the Carnivour faired better-i love that handle.

As far as utility, i find the AFCK's belly to be better then a recurve, plus, it slashes better, in my testings, although i really do love that darn axis lock. AAAARRRR....WHY CANT BENCHMADE MAKE AXIS-AFCK'S.....

Hey Frank (whoa), I have a love-hate relationship with my AFCK. I don't like the way it looks, but I love the way it feels. It just doesn't want to leave my hand.

The only knife that feels better, for me, is the Kelly Worden/Pat Crawford WORTAC. It fills my hand even better than the AFCK; for someone with hands my size that's quite an accomplishment. I'm guessing that your hands are also fairly big. If so, you'll probably like the WORTAC when the production model comes out.

To each his own, of course.

Ditto's I have one small AFCK and four full size in case one wears out.Hell of a knife backup to my Randall 14 when in the bush.

Please, the AFCK is NOT a tactical knife. The C is for camping. (Seriously, check the most recent Benchmade catalogs.)

I don't know if the AFCK is "THE BEST" tactical folder. I don't know if there is a single "BEST" tactical folder. But, I do know that in a market second only to woman's shoes for fickle fashion (I know some men with more "tactical" folder knives than their wives have shoes), the AFCK has stood the test of time and become one of the recognized classics.

Is "the best" tactical folder? Maybe, maybe not. But, you can't go to far wrong with it.

I'll also add that if you are like me, your folder gets a lot more "non-tactical" use than "tactical" use. While we might laugh at Benchmade's bit of political correctness in renaming this knife, the fact is that this is only one of a few true tactical knives that can wear that name and get away with it. To call, for example, the Wortac, "The Kelly Worden Camping knife" would be like dressing Spark up in a pink Tutu.

The AFCK wears not just the name, but the function as well. Several years ago, I finally found the problem on a circuit board I'd been working on. There was a solder bridge between two pins on a fine-pitch TQFP IC chip. For those of you who've never worked on this stuff, a fine-pitch TQFP has just a few thousandths of an inch between the pins and the pins are very delicate. There are special tools to clear solder bridges between these pins, but the board was so tight I couldn't get the tool in. Then, I got an idea. I got out my AFCK and (working under a microscope, of course) cut that bridge without damaging the pins. Then, I took the board and started to mount in on a fixture and realized that one of the slots in the fixture for one of the connectors to go through wasn't quite large enough. The fixture was made of 1/4" particle board. What could I do? Then I got an idea. I used the serrated part of my AFCK to cut through that wood and enlarge that opening quickly and easily.

The AFCK is a great utility design and a great fighting design.

The AFCK has not continued to sell well against everything that aggressive competition has put up against it for no reason.

I'm with JB, no one knife is "the best" for everyone like it is no the best car, the best gun or the best wife
wink.gif

However I like my AFCK over most my knives, it is my very, very favorite carry.

RGRAY, I like my BM 710 and BM 730 really very much and I'm inviting to visit my reviews on them: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001605.html and http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001301.html
But I'm going daily with my AFCK. Maybe I'm some kind of stubborn mule

The joke is in the fact I got BM 710 before AFCK...
