Hello I was hoping to get some thoughts on the Benchmade mini- AFCK (like the 812 or the 814) How is that finger hole for opening the knife? How is the lock? What would be a good price for one NIB? Any other comments would be very welcomed. Thanks

If you can find a mini-AFCK go for it! I think they're all liner-lock though...You'll find them easy enough. The design's well thought out and very comfortable to use. Nice G-10 and great blades. Recommended!

Thanks...I know someone selling a couple of them...yes, they are both liner locks. What would be a fair price for one. One is a 812 serrated edge(ATS34) and the other is a 814 (154cm) plain edge...both in excellent condition. Thanks

I have a real old mini that I used to death as a work knife. The liner lock held up fine and never gave a me a hint of a problem. I can take that old knife out of the safe right now and there will be absolutely zero play in the blade. I wish BM still made that knife. In an attempt to find a good substitute I bought several of the full size axis models. They just were not the same. If you can get your hands on one, do it now.

I found the locks to be good on the ones I owned, but the hole is too small for easy use in the mini-800 series knives, IMO. The fullsize 800 series knives' holes are too small, also, though I like and carry them.

The hole being too small is an issue common to many knives. To me, the Skirmish has an opening hole that is about right, though a bit small. The Military hole is right in size IMO and placement.

Ortho... Ya know that small hole is exactly why I am hesitating on buying this knife. I was thinking I would eventually get used to it, but now I am considering passing on it. I like the balde and the size, but it just doesnt operate smoothly in my hand....Thanks for your comments.

I have an 814, love the way it feels in my hand. I only wish it had the round hole or the oval hole wasn't beveled so much, lockup and fit are perfect on mine. Great knife to have imho!

I have one of the older mini-AFCKs with the round hole and ATS-34 blade. The liner lock still locks up nice and tight after years of EDC carry. Excellent, useful blade AND handle shape. It does take a little time to get used to the thumb movement to open the knife but once mastered it becomes second nature.

That said, knife technology has moved on in a big way for both blade steels and locks. Many of the modern BMs are superb in their own right. Before you part with too much cash realize it is an old tech knife that has many excellent competitors from Benchmade and Spyderco today.
