Any of you follow the UFC on Spike. I noticed tonight Chris Leben had a Benchmade logo on his shorts, then after the match while thanking his sponsors included Benchmade knives.

I did not know Leben was even in the UFC,he lost twice during the show so I thought that was it for him but tonight there he was and won!

I actually liked him during the show and its cool BM chose him.

Its funny to see BM support the fighters of UFC and not Cold Steel, they are all into martial arts. Maybe they are skeeered ;)

Benchmade is based in Oregon I beleive, as is Team Quest, the team that Chris Leban, Nathan Quarry, and Randy Cotoure fight for. I think it is cool that they are supporting their local fighters.

Benchmade's had sponsorship of Team Quest guys since at least UFC 52, when I saw their logo on the shorts of Randy Couture and Matt Lindland. Someone else may know if it's existed for longer than that. I agree it's a cool thing that they support MMA and the guys at Team Quest. I'm half-thinking about coming up with a list with a BM model that corresponds with each Quest guy.

I wonder if they get free knives, and if so what models? We should all email them and see it they would post pictures here with the fighters and thier favorite knives. How cool would that be!!!

Make with the list

Also if BM made and official UFC knife, which model would be best?

I don't know that their gym offers a specific self defense course, but if they did then maybe BM could give them trainer models for practicing disarms on a knife-carrying assailant.

I'll try to get cracking on the list.

yea - I noticed the same thing. those lucky ba$tards.. Im SURE they get to pick out at least a few free knives. I can't wait till the 22nd for the new season!!!!
If BM were to make an official UFC knife - I'll suggest bringing back the 805 for a limited run w/ black coated S30v blade!!!!!!!!!!

How about the Skirmish, get it "Skirmish". You know because of the name..Skirmish,ok forget it.

Yeh I can't wait for the new season as well. They had some good Liddell and Couture repeats on last night and I think again this thur. Getting us ready for the new season I rekon.

UFC 54 will be on at my house, unless I can find a neighbor with a bigger tv :D

You are in luck...

An encore telecast of the Ultimate Fight Night program can be seen Thursday, August 11 at 11 pm ET/PT.

Look at Chris Leben's camo trunks for the BM logo and also Nate Quarry while thanking his sponsors mentions BM although I don't recall it being on his trunks or jersey but I am going to watch it again tomorrow so I will pay a little closer attention in case I missed it.

Cool--thanks for the info.

Wow glad I watched the repeat. They took out the main event that sucked and replaced it with two matches they did not show sat night on the live show.

Bout 2: Alex Karalexis (5-0) vs Kenny Florian (4-2) – Welterweights
Florian defeated Karalexis by TKO at 2:52 of the second round after the referee stopped the fight due to an injury sustained to the nose (he got a real nasty cut)

Bout 3: Gideon Ray (15-2-1) vs Mike Swick (4-2) – Middleweights
Swick defeated Ray by KO at 22 seconds of the first round by a left-right-left counter-punch to the head. (very funny )

You should recognize three of those fighters from Ultimate Fighter season one. Of the eight fighters from season one that competed that night only one "Stephan Bonnar" actually had a contract. I like to watch the series but if they all get to fight in the UFC why go through the trouble of crowning a champion?

I saw the Leben and Quarry fights--wouldn't have noticed the BM logo on Leben's shorts if I didn't already know it was there. Quarry's was more visible, but I'm pretty unobservant at times and I'm pretty sure I would've missed it. I believe they both thanked BM as a sponsor. That's some great publicity for them.

I saw part of what was probably a replay on the first night it showed and the only "fight" I saw was Swick's--(don't know if it lasted long enough to actually be a fight). I didn't realize that it wasn't shown in the live. Now I wish I had watched the Florian fight too. I found out my friend recorded it so I was walking around and doing stuff and I missed it. I think my friend recorded the live version, though, so it's probably not in there. Though I suspect that there will be more replays so I expect that I'll see it eventually. Looking forward to the next season.

The Florian fight was ok. He basically did the same thing he did to beat Leben in the series,he elbowed Karalexis while he was on the fence defending and put a real nasty gash on his nose and the doc stopped the fight.

Florian did land some great kicks and you could see the whelts and bruise almost instantly on Karalexis side. Always good to see effective kicking, most miss or just put a foot out there for points.

I was interested in seeing Florian fight closer to his weight class. Leben totally out-powered him during the show and probably would've won had Florian not cut him. And Diego pretty much abused him in the finale.

The Swick/Ray fight was shown on the live telecast on Saturday. I missed the replay with the Karalexis/Florian fight... :(

Contracts are awarded for the pay-per-view shows, where they make more money. That event last Saturday was not really considered a "UFC"... Though some of the guys will probably earn their way on to future UFC PPV cards. But I do agree with you though... I was going to send in an application to get on season 2 but I didn't like the contract stipulations.

I am glad to see the sport getting so much more mainstream success. Forrest Griffin is a good friend of mine and I am glad that he is getting the success that he deserves now. Another friend of mine, Melvin Guillard, is going to be on season 2.

I am also happy to see BM get into MMA sponsorship. If there are any other knife companies looking to get into MMA sponsorship and are looking for events or fighters, please get in touch with me. I have 2 MMA schools in Georgia, one in Griffin and the other in Macon. I have 16 or 17 amateur fighters in my stable and about 4 or 5 guys associated with our team that fight professionally, including a UFC veteran. Our school/team webpage can be found here

http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/afapraxis

I am also an International Sport Combat Federation referee with over 35 events and almost 300 individul fights on my resume. I ref almost all the shows we have in GA, which take place here with a frequency of about 1 every 3 weeks. There are almost 10 shows scheduled in Sept. alone in GA, including The Submission Fighting Open (promoted by my manager, Matthew Waller) and the largest professional MMA org in the state, Fight Party Productions (promoted by Brett Moses).

If any other knife companies are looking to get into the MMA game and sponsorship I can put them in touch with a good handful of people, especially here in GA.

Thanks-

About the Benchmade/Quest list, I thought it might be better to have everyone have a say in it rather than just one person. So, I'll post some descriptions of the Team Quest guys and people can offer their suggestions as to what the best matching BM model would be. My Benchmade knowledge is rather limited outside of the few models I own, so other folks will have more and better suggestions than I would alone.

Anyway, we'll start with the 3 top fighters. The following are my opinions, but I think they're fairly straightforward. If you think I'm way off on something, please say so.

>Dan “Hollywood” Henderson – Tons of natural talent, very skilled in all major areas of competition. Not flashy but always solid and ready to go the distance to get the job done.

>Randy “The Natural” Couture – A winner wherever he’s been. Older than just about all the competition but still as strong as anyone. Defies odds and logic to stay at the top of the class. Improves and adapts, trains like crazy to stay in top shape. Respected by everyone, a total class act.

>Matt “The Law” Lindland – Curt, ornery and not too handsome. Extremely strong and successful in one dimension, which he capitalizes on quite well. Other areas still need improvement. A very good fighter, but not at the elite level.

Instead of describing individual models it sound like your descriptions are more well suited to BM's Blue Class, Gold Class and Black Class, respectively with the fighters listed above!!!!

Peace-
Cam

Im afraid I don't have enough knowedge of the entire BM line to match them up with fighters so I will leave that to you BM pros.

In the mean time lets get a shout out,who is your all time favorite fighter regardless of weight class. Mine would have to be Matt Hughes. No fear, tons of talent, hard head, and a fellow wrestler and farmboy lol.

Hes the only Miletich fighter I like, too bad hes not Quest :grumpy:
