found an ares at a show today and bought. its a 735bt, in really good condition. i was looking at other pictures of the knife online, and they all seem to have 735 printed below the benchmade logo on the blade, but the one i bought today does not.

any thoughts?

Could you post some pics? The absence of little details like that might (again, might) be a sign that it's a fake.

It's the real deal. It could be an early version. Also, Benchmade had some spare replacement blades at the factory up until last year, those had no model number etched below the logo as they are same for the entire line of 73x series. There's a chance that your piece went back to BM for blade replacement and came back like this.
Either way it's legit.

+1 on all of this. Enjoy your Ares!

Also one of my favorite Benchmade designs. The only BM I carry daily.

I have the Carbon Fiber handled version with M2 High Speed Tool steel blade.

It's done more actual work than all my other knives combined!

if i could find a plain 732 i think i'd never buy another knife. those wooden models are too cool. im jealous.
