They look pretty similar, but the AFCK is slightly better and therefore a bit more expensive.
What should make one choose one over the other?
Does the Ascent "look" and "feel" as good as the AFCK?

Also, how durable is the black teflon coating used on the blades in the __BT models?

Get the AFCK. G-10 scales w/SS or Ti liners beats pure zytel anytime. And the AFCK's are linerlocks, which I prefer to the Ascents' lockbacks. The AFCK feels a lot better, smoother, stronger. They look like the handle is the same shape, but if you hold them side by side, the AFCK feels a lot better. The only time I would suggest an Ascent over an AFCK is if you need to fit under a 3" blade for legal reasons.

And I've heard that BM's black coating will scratch under hard use, but none of mine have scratched at all (yet).

Andre- I have both and by far the AFCK is a better quality knife. Worth the extra $$. I have managed to scratch the coating on mine, but don't mind 'cuz mine are users and I like the extra corrosion protection.

I also have both and I go strongly with the AFCK. Like said before, the ergonomics of the AFCK are better and the ti/g-10 is much stronger and feels better in your hands.

I found that the zytel flexes very easily to the point that my normal grip will bend it. I also found that the lockback tends to disengage as you start to press it in. This causes a slight bit of play in a normal grip. I know this is not characteristic of a lockback because my Endura doesn't do this.

play with the AFCK for about 10 minutes, and then play with the Ascent... you'll see why the AFCK is more expensive. The Ascent/Eclipse/Whatever feels like a cheap POS afterwards. At least mine did. If you want to get a Zytel handled knife, go for the Spyderco Endura... same price point, much better knife.

AFCK. You can probably get one for about 85 dollars if you shop around. http://www.mjsknives.com generally has some. If you handle the Ascent and compare it to a Spyderco Endura, you'll think the Ascent is a piece of crap. The zytel handles on the Ascent feel gritty and cheap, and the opening smoothness is nowhere close to the Spyderco Endura. For Zytel handled lockback onehanders, Spyderco is the King.

Do a search in the review forums for a lock comparison of the two knives. The Accent usually does not fare well. There are many stories of Accent lock failures, I have not heard of any with the AFCK. My AFCK lock has never failed but I do not have an Accent to compare to.

Check out the Spydeco Goddard lightweight, it is probably similar in price to the Accent.

Thanks for all the info guys

I did manage to take anither look at an Ascent and decided it was an "inferior" product comapred with my old Syderco Endura.

Conclusion: you were all right. The ACFK is definitely the better option. Now I just need the money

What you guys consider to be average priced knives end up being very expensive here due to a crappy exchange rates.
