Hi all,
My EDC is a Benchmade Ascent, took me forever to figure that out because neither the name or the model number is anywhere on the blade. I've tried searching the web and can't find any other info on it. My dad gave this to me years ago and I think I've kept it in good condition. I use it for light stuff, cutting paracord, stripping bark off of sticks, opening the odd box, etc. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this knife? When was it made? When was it discontinued? Stuff like that.
I'll be honest, I'm attached to this knife and it does what I want it to do and keeps an edge very well, at least to my limited knowledge. I have others, but I love this knife. Anyway, just asking.
Thanks,
Gray

I believe the blade is 154cm. I own the same knife. I retired it a few years ago. Its a tough little knife. It has a spyder hole in it, they borrowed it or something, paid benchmade i believe. It was discontinued 5+ years ago i believe.

I have an Benchmade #831 Ascent. The blade on mine is ATS-34. I believe it was discontinued about 2002 give or take a couple of years. For detailed model history, you might contact Benchmade info. Go to their web site and, under "company" click on "contact". A popup will let you send them an email. Very helpful folks, but give them a couple of days to respond.

I also am a fan of this lockback. It is extremely light and has a great blade shape with very good steel. Mine holds an edge quite well. (It should. ATS-34 is the Japanese version of 154CM.)

I have one, too, and I wish I had one that was just a plain edge. The knife is light, strong, has an excellent grip and is hard to put down. I'd hate to lose it.

The ATS-34 steel is very nice and it holds an excellent edge.

My Ascent is a model number 821. I think it's the Mini version. It has 440C satin, drop point, combo edge with tumbstud. No liners, lockback. I LOVE it. It is impossibly lightweight, gets and stays sharp (like all my BM 440Cs), and has a real solid lockup with no blade play. Made in USA and I only paid 24 bucks for it.
