I just picked up a NIB Benchmade Ascent 845 for $35 and was wondering if anyone has one and their feelings about it and is the ATS34 steel any good?

While a large number of people may not agree with me I think that Ascent series were one of the best knife lines that Benchmade ever offered (from a price point). I have had several and one was lost due to the stupid pocket clip (never trust one) and one was stolen. They were my absolute favorite EDC knives. ATS 34 is a very good blade steel although it does take a little more time and knowledge to get it shaving sharp it will hold an edge extremely well. I think you got a heck of a deal on that knife, they usually go for quite a bit more. I wish they would bring it back into production. We shouldn't have to spend close to $100 for a decent knife IMO. TIP: carry it in your pocket or a sheath, the clip is convenient but not very secure.

I loved the smaller ascent II with thumbhole. I never noticed an issue with the pocket clip - until I lost the knife while bird hunting.
