Recommendation? Benchmade at pawn shop

I could use some input from the Benchmade Community. I'm at the local pawn shop and they have a Griptilian (551 I think) it's missing the thumb stud it's a little rusty on the inside but otherwise it looks good. Guy says he'll sell it to me for 45 bucks. I know I can get a new one for about 120. How much is it going to cost me to send it to Benchmade and have it brought back to life. Is it worth it? I like projects and I'd like to own a Griptilian but I'm not sure if this is worth it.
Thanks for the input

Shouldn't cost more than the price of shipping to send it back to life sharp where they'll most likely replace the thumbstud and clean it up free of charge. Provided it doesn't need a new blade $45 would be an ok buy in my opinion. Offer him less, even better.

Thanks for the input, I did end up buying it. I will now send it to Benchmade to be cleaned up and sharpened. Needs New carry clip and thumb stud is missing too. Here are a couple pics. The blade cleaned up nice with a little flitz. The pic is before the flitz.

That’ll come up well, just chuck it in the post I’m pretty sure it’ll come back looking split mint with a new clip and stud.

Thanks for the input and positive comments everyone. I own other benchmades, but this is my first griptillian. I've read a lot about how popular they are and have wanted one, so I am excited to have found this one.

I've never sent a knife to Benchmade before, and welcome any tips that you all can offer regarding what I should write on the repair form.
Will they buff scratches out of the blade if I request it? I am willing to pay for whatever non warranted work is needed and I think all the blade needs is a buff and sharpening.
Also would like to have screws that look rusty replaced, and a general disassembly, cleaning and replacing of any worn parts.

Thanks again for the input

LOL, okay. So I may be over thinking this, or be a bit too worried about the little things. Thanks for keeping me grounded!!!

The last ones I sent in got all new hardware, cleaning, and sharpening free of charge. Just sent in a couple more and requested a few extra clips. The clips are listed on the RMA. Best customer service out there.

Had the same (surprising, but welcome) experience! Very pleased with the service I received from Benchmade in terms of warranty work.

Just sent in my first one to them too. It took about four weeks. I got an email as soon as they got it though. And another when it shipped. Mini grip D2 from cabelas with combo edge. Had a HUGE chip in in it. They managed to repair it, and even sharpen the serrations! Replaced all the hardware and springs too! I am very happy with my experience.

Thanks for the input. My 551 (pictured above) is in the mail and they should receive it tomorrow. It's good to hear that everybody has had such positive experiences with their customer service.

Has anyone ever sent Benchmade more than one knife at a time?
(ie. Ship them three knives at the same time to save on shipping expenses)

I have sent 2 knives in for LifeSharp service before...they sharpened both and replaced some screws no problem. Just include a note with what you want done etc or if they have a form now, use that.

Did you send both knives in at the same time? I have a few knives to be sharpened and prefer sending them to Benchmade all at once instead of one at a time.
