i have a benchmade Auto Stryker 9100.

two weeks ago i took my knife to a "professional sharpener" and the end product i received was crap.

the blade is a tanto blade made of 154CM,

but when i got my knife back the guy practically made it a drop point blade.

any way i can get my tanto edge back?

i will get my Spyderco Sharpmaker sometime this next week.

thanks,

Kyle

First thing first, complain to the company. I know that if someone brought their knife into my store and I reground a tanto tip into a drop point or spear point, I would be shelling out the money to re-buy the knife for the person. Otherwise, more time at a grinder would be my best advice. It is going to suck, and is going to shorten your blade probably.

Good luck figuring out what to do.

Well, if you want to reshape the blade back to a tanto, I'd suggest getting one of those auto-metal sanding sheet kits, the ones with different grades of wet/dry sanding paper in them. The 3M versuins are found in many auto stores and Walmart, as well as other places.

That, and a planar surface (table top or sheet of glass), should allow you to reshape the blade.

Start with the coarsest and work to the finer grades. Get the initial shape with the coarsest.

BTW - that is an unfortunate way to learn that many "professional sharpeners" are not. I sympathize.

thats going to take some time to fix by hand. can you email me some better pictures?
rje196021@gmail.com if you are going to fix it yourself i can send you some pictures that might help you out. it might take a belt sander running slow to get it back if you cant do it by hand.

With a note saying your problem, they sometimes put new blades on as cheap as $20 bux, they are super on customer service.

Depending on the state you live in and the circumstances benchmade might not give you the knife back if you mail it to them because it's an auto.

So cross your Ts and dot you I s before mailing it to them if you decide to go that route

i completely understand what your saying, but i guess i was not complete in the information i provided.

i am Active Duty Air Force. i have the restricted items approval from benchmade. i bought the knife from them.

Seriously, take it back to whom ever sharpened it and make them reimbures you for whatever it may cost.

WOW!
I just finished resharpening the same knife for a good friend of mine.. Along with taking it apart to get years of gunk out..
Mine came out great.. and sharpening is just a hobby of mine..
This so called "PRO" owes you a full refund..
Good luck
matt
