I have very recently acquired a Benchmade Balisong 42AS andonized first production. I found it in a pawn shop and it looks brand new even the latch isnt worn very much, and it doesnt look like its been flipped. Anyway I only bought it because its a benchmade and its a first production. A friend of mine wants to trade me to trade it to him, but I am unsure of its value and dont wanna do an unfair trade on either side. So does anyone have any idea how much it might be worth, because I dont go by how much they go on ebay.

I would suggest watching this auction and going off of that.

The Pre-Production part doesn't really mean much. Benchmade aparently does all their Pre-Production on the varients that require the most steps, which if there's a serrated model, it's that one. It could be entirely possible that there's more Pre-Production BM42AS made than unmarked ones, or indeed there's only Pro-Pro marked ones.

Serrated balisongs generally don't command as much value as their plain-edge brothers, because the serrations are in a place that they can do serious damage to the flipper's hands (moreso than a plain edge) if a manipulation is fumbled.

EDIT: Oops, I must have missed the last part of your post. I understand your apprehension of going by ebay, since things can get weirdly out of hand sometimes when it comes to out-of-production BM balis. However, since the demand for your particular knife isn't as great as some other ones, say a 46-01BLK or a 43A, I would expect that you could get a pretty accurate guess by the outcome of this auction.

agree with planterz its only worth what any std serrated bali of that model is, no premium at all for a pre-pro.

The person who will pay a small premium for a pre-pro is someone trying to fill out a set.

But that person is going to want NIB (new, in-the-box) pieces.
