Benchmade Bargain?

Hi Guys,
I am not very clued up on Banchmade as a brand, but was at an Expo yesterday and saw a 'Benchmade' knife at a lot lower price than I would have expected. The quality seemed quite impressive , so I would be hesitant to say its a fake. I could not find similar design on the Benchmade website, where I was trying to find model number/ name etc. Possible it could be an older model if it is genuine

Does anyone know this knife and possibly what model name/number it might be?? (I wont be too upset if it turns out to be a fake. It looks good and its just going up in my knife cabinet) The box label had '996T' on it, but not sure if this even relates to a model number at all.

Its been a while since I posted a pic on this forum, so apologies if it doesnt work properly.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Pretty sure all benchmades have the model number under the butterfly on the blade. This one had random markings I'm guessing a decent fake. I'm not an expert by any means just my .02

ive never seen a benchmade even resembling that one.

the packaging also looks odd.

Aside from not being able to find the model number (as you said, it's not on the site, and nothing turned up when I googled it), there are a couple of odd things I see in your pictures. The first is the box; as far as I know, Benchmade has never used a box in that color (too light to be a Blue Class box) or with a picture of the particular knife contained on the front. Second, the logo has what seem like a few corner-cutting oddities. Most obviously, the markings below the butterfly should be "U.S.A." or (on imported models) some other text, as well as the model number, but on this there's just that odd thing that looks like a three-bristled comb. Also, the shapes of the butterfly's spots are very slightly off (google "Benchmade logo" and compare for yourself).

This is so fake it's not even funny.

Benchmade has never made a knife that even comes close to this. They don't use that blade, that handle, that pivot, the logo on the blade is wrong, the logo on the handle is something benchmade wouldn't do, and the box is wrong too.

Any previous buyer of Benchmade would have pegged it for a fake when the box did not come in the typical blue, red, black, or gold box to indicate the knife's respective class. The logo on the handle is also uncommon to Benchmade, and I think all knife manufacturers tend to put the type of steel on the blade.

I suppose it looks well made and would have fooled me if I had not bought a Benchmade(or three) before, though I hope you didn't pay more than $12 for the thing. I would just keep it as a disposable pry bar or gardening tool to dig soil with. You can also drive it into the concrete, but remember to wear gloves and safety glasses:thumbup:.

The only way that could be more fake is if they misspelled "Benchmade".

Aside from the knife looking all wrong and the box being the wrong color, the label says "knive". I'm sure Benchmade can spell "knife" correctly.

This one is so fake it is not even from China but from North Korea.
You should hang out on the forums more and ask questions before you pull the trigger.

Hope you didn't pay more than 15 - $20 for it. Live & learn my friend. ;)

Haha,, Got to laugh at myself!

I'm not exactly a collector so didnt know the brand very well before I bought it. I dont feel ripped off cos it was cheap enough not to dent the pocket and I see the real deal goes for about 15 times what I paid for this. The 'knive' thing did seem curious but I didnt know where this brand (the real one) ranked in the quality stakes.

Oh well, like i said... the quality is surprisingly good for what I paid, and its a nice enough looking knife to sit in my knife display!

Thanks for all your inputs
