Benchmade Barrage, can "assist" be disabled?

Hi All,

Looking at the Benchmade mini-barrage
http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=585

I like it, it has my favorite lock(axis-lock) but it comes only with assisted opening. I am not interested in carrying an assisted opener (not sheeple friendly at all). I have some knives which came assisted, but one can remove the spring (CRKT full throttle comes to mind), or the assist can be "switched off" like the Kershaw Cyclone.

Does anyone know if the assist can be disabled, spring removed etc on the Mini-Barrage?

Also, what is the Valox (handle scale material) like? I have Benchmades with the Noryl GTX (griptilians), don't care for the Noryl.

Thanks,
Mike

Why not just get a Griptillian?

I agree. The handle is cool, though if you had to remove the spring to get rid of the assist function, might as well save time and money and get a griptilian or another similar axis knife. Though removing if the assist function doesn't matter at all, I suppose getting the knife and removing the coil wouldn't be all that bad.

Why not just get a Griptillian?

Already have Griptilians (Ritter griptilians large and mini with S30v), don't care for the handle material (Noryl GTX). Also, the large Ritter Grip is blade heavy (unlike the "regular" large griptilians which balance well), and the mini Ritter Grip is just "that much" too small to fit my hand.

Thanks,
Mike
