So long story short I was looking for a new EDC to try out and found that I had a NIB benchmite. Before breaking it out I did a quick price/availability check and these things seem to have turned into "collectors"

I dont have collectors and have no issue using it, but prior to doing so can anyone comment on the levitator lock? I don't expect this to be doing any real hard duty, but will it hold up to some "aggressive" box cutting without accidentally snipping off a finger tip?

Thanks in advance

I suspect the lack of answers are because there's few here who own, or have owned a levitator lock, and even fewer (if any) who have used one hard enough to comment.
Wonder how many benchmades were made with this lock?
The benchmade site doesn't even list the levitator lock as one of their locking mechanisms.

That's because it's long discontinued. First appearing in the 2006 catalog, the mechanism was used on the 10610 Benchmite II. With an easy squeeze of the button on the handles, the blade snapped out. I don't think the lock was used for long, I can't remember seeing another knife that used it. Not a bad buy for $35 though.

This was what prompted the question. l guess I'll beat on my current edc and when I lose, or give it away I'll consider the benchmite. Thanks for the replies.

The 10600 Snipe used the levitator lock FWIW. That, and the benchmite are the only ones that used it I think

Yes missed the Snipe, pulled the catalog and (RIP Steve Fecas...) the knife was well designed and placement of the Levitator button was good.
