Benchmade blade length?

Hey all, just a quick question...I started collecting knives recently and have a few Spyderco and Kershaw knives. I've now gotten a few Benchmades (913 Nitrous Stryker and 950 Rift) and it seems their blade lengths don't match the specs on the Benchmade website? The Stryker is 3.7 inches and the Rift is 3.67 (3.7) but when I measure where the blade tip meets the handle I get 3.5 inches. I measured from the pivot to the tip and that's roughly a hair over 4 inches. So where exactly are they getting this 3.7 inch blade length from?

Thanks for any responses, really liking the Benchmades so far I just don't get their measurements lol.

I have a few Benchmades - and I am perplexed as well. This year's 755 Sibert MPR is a super knife - with a blade listed as 3.40". Roll the edge along a ruler - it's 2.82" from choil to tip. It measures just under 3.5" from the middle of the pivot screw to the tip. It's an important measurement. If it is <3", it is legal in many areas that it wouldn't be at 3.4". Strange! I would like to know their measurement secret... perhaps it's the same as the way they sharpen their production knives - by eye! (TFIC)

I just measured 4(525,940,710,555) of mine from handle to tip and they are all within 1/16th of the advertised sizes.

I'll ask you a stupid question, are you using a rule that starts with 0? ie some rules have that little extra tab on the end. Otherwise I can only suggest they probably have just messed up on those knives?

Stainz: the 755 was recognised as a mistake and has been changed to 2.90 in.

I wish the length of the blade would state the cutting edge length, as that is the most important part in my mind. I didn't like the caly 3 because although it had a 3" advertised blade, the choil really ate into the cutting edge.

Ok here's what I'm talking about, sorry for a couple fuzzy pics I didn't want to switch to my low light lens (I was lazy).

Benchmade 913 Nitrous Stryker 3.7? It's 3.5.....

Benchmade 950 Rift 3.7"? It's a tad over 3.5 at most.

*Edit* Maybe for the 950 Rift they mean from the top part of the blade? But the Stryker is still not right.....

Looking at those pictures it would seem to me that their measurements go from the tip of the knife to where the blade first emerges from the handle.

Hey Tiral, I reduced those photos down so that 1 inch on your tape matched 1 inch on my metal rule and then measured the first inch of your tape and it was 1 inch and 1/8th approx.

So if I have this correct everything you measure should read to be around 1/8th short...? so in theory when you measure starting with the 1 inch mark(instead of the metal tab) you should get a more accurate reading:).
