Sorry for asking the newbie questions. I am getting ready to buy my second Benchmade folder. My first one was a gift from my wife a BM-773 and it was stolen from my desk about 2 years ago.

Didn't have any luck finding the exact same knife so I started looking for a new one. I like the look of the BM960-SLV and the BM743.

I know that the difference between the D2 and the S30V blade is really open for discussion amongst knife owners. I don' even mind the 154CM blade, I just can't find a style that I like.

Does anyone out there own a BM960-SLV or BM943? Your input would be helpful.
Thanks for any help offered.

I don't own the 943 but I own the 940 which is the same with a different blade shape. The opening is very fast and it locks up soildly. the factory edge is too thick though(like 30 degrees). It's a very slim and good fitting EDC. The 940 is also in a case of being a truely ambidexterous knife.

I really love my 943, it remains my current favorite EDC. It's nice and light, 2.62 ounces, while still having a 3.4 inch blade. And, as a lefty, I really like the ambidextrous Axis-lock; playing with one is addicting.

I never owned a 943 or 940, but I did own a red 960. I'm pretty sure they're discontinuing the entire 960 series, so that might be some incentive to get one. I thought it was a nice knife; I only sold it because I had many more knives than I needed. something bigger like the 940 or 943 would have been nicer, but I prefered the design of the 960. it seemed like a very high quality knife (higher quality than the price) because of the inlaid g10.

Well I own the 940, and the 960RED.
I would go with the 940 over the 960. The 960 is more of a gentlemen's folder, but the 940 isn't too large to carry either, and it makes a great edc. I'm not fond of the blade shape on the 943, so I got the 940.

It is unfortunate that the don't make the BM940 series knife in a "spearpoint" blade. I have to admit the existing BM943 has a menacing looking point but I am concerned with how "frail" the blade could be with such a "fine" taper on the end. If I could find the BM960 series with a spear point and 154CM steel, that would be exactly what I am looking for. I don't mind spending $150-$200.00 if I can find the right knife. I really do appreciate the insights. :)

I much prefer the 943 over the 960. Better ergos, more comfortable to use by design is slimmer and the blade is longer. I love things with clip points, and never mind the strength of the tip, just use it to cut not pry...

Might want to get a 960SLV also when you can due to it being discontinued this year and I'd expect the price to go up accordingly.

I found an HD BM13940BK that looks pretty decent. It seems to have most of the things that I am looking for. I am still pulled a little bit by this HD BM13960BK-SLV.

What I like about both of these knives is "no serrated edge" and the black coating on the S30V blade. And even though I am an "ex-Harley rider" (back injury put an end to that), I am not real excited about the name "Harley Davidson being written in large letters across the blade of the BM13960. For that reason the BM13940 has more of an appeal.

I just picked up a 943 and just love it!

It is a great knife. I am very please with the ergonomics and the speed of the axis lock.

The tip does not look too fine/weak to me. It looks MUCH MUCH better than the Kershaw Leeks I have and I have never broken one of those.
