I ordered this as a birthday present to myself, but it came a little early and I couldn't wait to open it. It's certainly a beautiful little knife, and it will be my light use special occasion knife for a while.

I noticed a couple of issues with my initial inspection. First, several of the screws holding the handle together were loose. One was loose enough to see light between the liner and the back spacer. I also noticed several good sized metal filings wedged between the blade and the washers. Neither of these were an issue to deal with, but I didn't think I would see little things like that on a new Benchmade.

The blade did not come as sharp as I expected, but this is my first experience with D2 so I don't know if it sharpens as well as 154CM. It still cuts well, just not as well as my mini grip (even after a couple of weeks of daily use with no sharpening).

My little complaints aside, I absolutely love this knife. It has rock solid lockup with an audible "clack" every time it's opened. I'm excited to get acquainted with the D2 blade, which is pretty thick. The cocobolo wood handles add a very natural feel to the knife. To me, the absolute best part of this knife is the pocket clip. Deep carry, single position, right side tip up carry. No extra holes in my handles :D

Let me know if you want to see any other sides of the knife, I'll do my best to get good pictures but I can't get little details because it's a cell phone camera.

What country was your knife made?

I'm not familiar with the Bone Collector line.

Made in USA :)

Hmm. That is a surprise. And I can see why you were a little disappointed.

As for D2. I have a Warn Mini Barrage in D2. I find it's harder to sharpen (takes longer) than 154CM. But it will hold a edge better.

D2 isn't stainless so keep it clean and keep it oiled.

That is a nice knife. But being left handed, I don't get one.

Is there a specific oil you recommend for D2? I have a lot of household 3 in 1 but I've found that to be lacking for most of my uses in knives.

D2 isn't stainless, but it's close. I've had BM's D2 for years and never had a problem with it. 3 in 1 Oil will actually work for blade protection if you want to use it. You can also use food grade mineral oil from the kitchen pantry if you think you might be doing food prep with it. Other than that, if you shoot, a gun cleaner / lube will work (Hoppe's, CLP, Break-Free, etc.). Keeping it clean and dry (as you would with any quality tool) is really your best protection.

Thanks Dale, I'll probably use Hoppe's for a while then. I'm almost obsessive about cleaning blades after use, so now I won't be too worried about it.
