Is the dlc coating on the benchmade bugout 535bk-2 durable ? Will it flake of like other types of coatings ? Is it with getting ?

I can’t speak of Benchmade’s DLC, but my 535GRY-1 with the gray chromium nitride coated blade is pretty tough. Here is a test showing it compared to several other coatings.

The coating on my 535GRY-1 has held up pretty well compared to other knives I have with DLC coating. I believe the 535GRY has a chromium nitride coating, so not quite the same as DLC, but I imagine Benchmade's DLC coated blades would hold-up just as well if not better.

I've used several brands with DLC coated blades... Benchmade, Protech, as well as Spyderco. DLC is extremely durable. I carried a DLC-coated TR-3 SWAT every day for a couple of years of warehouse work and home daily use. The blade still looked pretty clean and well coated when I sold it. Even my old garage beater original Paramilitary is not as scratched up as you might expect it to be for a garden/garage/whatever knife.

That being said, I don't prefer coated blades unless it's a steel that would benefit from extra corrosion protection. So Cerakote is more useful to me than DLC. I do have a couple of blacked out Bugouts, though, and I certainly like them. It's about the lightest daily carry folder I've ever had and if I have to have DLC to get that version, it's worth the cost to me.
