Hello just pulled trigger on a Bushcrafter ,and would like to know the sharpening angle and a few options such as diamond stone or otherwise for a hard blade such as this . thanks

If your asking what the angle is from factory i would assume it varies a bit. As far as a good angle to use I think 17dps is a good starting point for a fixed blade. If your a bit rough go fatter (20dps) if you want a better slicer maybe try 15dps (you can always add a micro bevel if it seems to not hold up). If the factory grinds look good i would just use it and see what you think. If all is well just replicate the factory angle. I think that knife is s30v. If so diamonds would help speed up the process, at least for re profiling. S30v can be a bit more of a pain to sharpen than 154cm or vg10. Hope this helps. Ive never owned a bushcrafter but ive always thought they were a cool design.

Thanks! I'm brand new what does dps stand for , for cheap blades I just went at about 23 degrees and got good results .

It stands for degrees per side. 15dps would have a secondary bevel of 30 degrees inclusive. The advantage of better steels is you dont need to go as thick as 23 dps to get stability. The steeper the angle the better the knife will cut. If you go too steep your edge will be unstable or too weak. This varies depending on the steel. For s30v i would try 17 degrees per side or 34 degrees inclusive, at least for a fixed blade. If you have any questions let me know. Welcome to the hobby. On a side note if you sharpen at less than 20 dps you can do easy touch ups with alot of common systems like the spyderco sharpmaker or worksharp. Youtube is your friend as far as sharpening goes.

If you're just learning to sharpen, I would recommend a Lansky guided rod system with diamond stones to handle that steel.

This will allow you to experiment with back bevels and apex angles in a controlled manner with minimal amounts of user error. The sharpening subforum is a good source of help.

IMO, edge angles depend on usage. I generally use a 17dps back bevel and 20dps apex bevel. Slightly thicker for Bushcrafter type knives.
