Ok, the back story first....I traded recently for a BM Grip 551 with Wilkins on it. I love it but of course I just had to have the 552 Ritter on the Wilkins so I ordered that with an Orange grips and then switched the blades. Of course, like a good little knife fanatic, I kept the box. A little later I was reading that BM is getting rid of the red class, leaving only gold, black and blue, the boxes that the knives come in matching the color of the class. I was in my closet earlier today and realized the 552 had come in a silver box. I began to wonder, is silver the color they use for all collaborations? What other knives came in a silver box? Do they use other colors (I know the HD and HK knives boxes are different) or is silver the standard for knives not assigned to a classes? Is this an "off the books, behind the scenes" class that BM has?

All my run-of-the-mill collabo's came in blue boxes (Mel Pardue, Ellishewitz, Osborne, etc.) -- I thought that was pretty standard, unless it's a Gold Class or LE with the presentation case.

The silver BM box is also used if you send your knife into Life - Sharp for service, so if you want to keep your box that came with the knife don't send it in when shipping to BM. Will come back in a silver one. Great service department BTW.

The OP is referring to the generic GRAY box they use for shipping. The Ritters should NOT come in a gray box.

Actually, the box is more silver as it has a "sheen" to it; it is not flat as I would expect gray to look like but then again, is there a silver and a gray or just one grayish box? Anywho, from what I gather from the posts the gray/silver box is the "generic" box. BTW, why should the Ritters not come in a gray box? I am just curious.

They come in a Benchmade blue box labeled with the model number. Just like all the grips. It’s no big deal unless you just keep it for resale or decide to EDC the box as a sheath.

hmmm, that is interesting as I bought it directly from Knifeworks and it came in a silver/gray box.

silver boxes are what knives come in when they return to you from service or whatever.

Red, black, and blue class knives ship in those colored boxes when you buy them.
