Hi all,

Just received my Benchmade 940 today from BladeHQ.

After watching tons of videos on the 940, I noticed in a lot of unboxing videos, guys would remove the the knife from the black benchmade bag and then afterwords, the knife would be inside another small, clear protective bag. I was curious why my knife did not have this secondary plastic bag. The knife arrived fine. Actually, I consider the one I got to be a damn good production (solid lockup and smooth as silk).

However, besides the bag issue, I noticed some small white powder on under the pocketclip upon removing the protective paper beneath the clip and the frame. The "powder" was just some of the anodizing wearing. Washed it off and no issues.

Anyway, just curious if anyone has an idea on the plastic bag and why it's in some people's boxes and not others.

Thanks in advance.

The only recent Benchmade I've purchased was a 51 balisong from BladeHq, and it came in a removable-top box with just the black bag over the knife, no plastic bag. I think this is BM's new packaging style (vs. the older slide-out box and plastic bag inside black bag). Here's a vid (not mine) from earlier this year that shows the newer packaging:

I'd say 75% of mine come with the plastic bag and the black one. Not entirely sure why. Maybe the seller takes then out of the plastic and didn't put it back?

The 710 I got a while ago came with a bag but I recently bought a 51 and a mini grip both didn't come with a bag also they stopped sending the blue axis card tab in-between the pocket clip.

I've bought a few Benchmade's this year. Some came with plastic baggies, some without. Some came with the Axis card under the clip, some did not. Some came with warranty cards, some did not. Some came in the old slide out boxes, some in the new top opener, some of the boxes had tape on them and some did not. All came in the cloth bag, all were new, all were excellent knives.

Don't sweat the packaging. Some of the packages probably have been opened in the past. Some might have been used for display purposes. Some might even have been sold to a previous buyer who returned it. So what. If there are no signs of obvious tinkering or use, it's still a new knife. If it meets your satisfaction as a new knife, use it. If not, return it. If you return it, someone else will get the package and decide if it's satisfactory for them.

Bought 10 new Benchmades in the last 6 months.....no plastic bags.
Are you worried it's a fake??
Enjoy that 940!!! Fantastic knife!
Joe

That reviewers 940 came with grey looking foam and my Benchmades came with blue foam!

Does anyone know why my foam is blue? I might loose some sleep over this:D;)

If you ordered a plastic bag and didn't receive one, contact customer service.

If you ordered a Benchmade 940 and received one, then you have my congratulations.

Try to enjoy the knife in spite of the missing plastic bag.

It's one of those things that it's there on some knives and not on others. There is no explanation that I can think of, but then again I worry more about getting the knife in good shape than the plastic baggie. The microfiber baggy has always been a nice touch.
Welcome to the forums BTW.

HOLY CRAP! You got the BLUE foam?! You lucky bastard! That's like Willy Wonka's golden ticket. Now you get a tour of the Benchmade factory.

But don't mess with the Oompa Loompa's. They're mean little suckers, and they carry knives.

:D

We're just having a little fun Sovernstrength. There's nothing wrong with being curious about any detail of you knife buying experience. And there's nowhere better to ask questions than here. There's no such thing as a dumb question when you're among friends :).

And yeah, what's with opening a knife box with scissors? That's just sacrilegious.

I've noticed that none of the BM's that come in BM's new box have a plastic bag and I've ordered several since they changed to the new boxes. The knives I've received in the old boxes however still have a plastic bag. None of the new ones though. I believe this is intentional and nothing to worry about.

well if you open your new knife box with an old knife aint that like having your ex girlfriend help move your new girlfriend out of her house and into yours?

Go ask the folks on the Benchmade Forum so they can have a good laugh too....
