I see benchmade clips on ebay , just saw one listed for 55.00 . Crazy. Well for those who don't know you can get clip from benchmade for free . I ordered some for my 906,907 and 950. Asked how much I owe the nice girl said all she needed was my address. Thank you benchmade.

I see auctions all the time for ridiculous prices on clips, especially Benchmade ones. Of course there are exceptions like titanium or carbon fiber clips, but as long as you have a teeny bit of patience you can get them for free!

It cracks me up when I see people bidding on the CF clips. A quick Google will take you to the company that makes them, and they are a lot cheaper buying direct than on the bay...

It's a double-edged sword. BM giving all these clips away is one reason that BM's prices are what they are. People feel entitled to get all these free clips because BM's prices are what they are.

The description "entitled" is a little strong. I have received a few of the 810 low profile clips, but each time I adamantly offered to pay for them. Each time the customer service representative refused to accept payment. If it is decreasing Benchmade's profit margin to unacceptable levels I'm sure they would begin charging for any clips shipped to customers.

I feel like I would have more spare clips lying around if I paid for them from BM. But since they were free, I feel obligated to only ask for what I will use and not more.

I disagree with this. Over a bunch of years asking for replacement clips (which I call Consumables) whether the cost of the knife is up or down have always been offered for free. Price increases aren't caused by asking for a clip or two. And I also don't abuse the privelege.

I hear what you guys are saying, but you can't tell me that sending out all those clips at no-cost are not cutting into profits. Obviously, I have no idea how many free clips they send out per week, per month or per year, but I'm sure it adds up. Of course, they're never going to say "Well guys, our 2015 prices are going up by 15% because of all the free clips we gave out in 2014."

In any business, "free" items are costing the consumer, somehow, somewhere.

Respectively, we enthusiasts who regularly visit "Blade Forums" begin to believe our knife life-style is the "normal". However, I'll bet if a survey is taken of ALL Benchmade knife owners very few are aware, or even care about replacing their clips with a low profile version. So, the overall cost to Benchmade is probably very low and is more a customer loyalty perk that helps bring customers back to purchase more Benchmades knives.

If you were to follow that line of thinking then Benchmade would have to do away with their lifetime warranty and their sharpening service also. That would be followed by an increase in price of the replacement blades option they offer also. While you can not argue the fact that giving away belt clips costs I believe, as a business owner of over 43 years you have to give the customer the kind of service he would expect from a quality retailer or you could be labeled greedy or worse. Smith & Wesson has a lifetime warranty and I have taken advantage of it from time to time. I believe it is also built into the price as the cost of them doing business, but the face that they stand behind their product and their warranty is one of the reasons I keep buying their product. No doubt the cost of the clip is in the price of the knife but for me, that is alright.

I disagree with the idea that BM is losing money, or charge more, to cover the cost of providing screws and clips. Advertising is an expense that provides greater business and more sales to existing buyers and new buyers based on the understanding that BM stands behind their products. True it is an expense, but one that increases sales. Most hand gun manufacturers do the same.
