Benchmade coating question

710SBT = Combo Edge w/ BT Coating, 710BT = Plain Edge w/ BT Coating

The S in SBT doesn't stand for special, it stands for serrated. If it has BT next to the model number, it has black coating.

Also, those prices are ridiculous!!

UK£ 130.95 = 255.653685 U.S. dollars

i dont like coatings my self they scuff up to easily and yes either of those will scuff.

aye, S is for serrated

BLADE COATINGS
BK1 ® COATING: BK1 coating is a matte black coating that provides excellent corrosion protection, which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater while possessing higher scratch resistance.

BT2 ® COATING: A proprietary blade coating that is Xylan ® based to provide excellent corrosion resistance which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater and increases overall surface lubricity.

BP1 COATING: Black Pearl (BP) is a PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating made up of Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN for short). It is a darker, near black, scratch resistant coating with nice decorative qualities.

I'll add to Guinness70's response,
(though how anyone could improve on Guiness is more than I would know.:D)

The coatings as listed by Guinness70 are in increasing order of robustness:

ASTM-117 is a salt spray spec. It is usually referenced by those using epoxy coatings. Epoxy is relatively hard, but will scratch faster than the other two coatings listed. Epoxies can be powder coatings or liquid paint.

Xylan is a teflon-type baked on coating. Very tough, but it is a plastic and can be damaged. Being teflon it will has a low coefficient of friction.

TiCN coatings are inorganic and are uber hard. Very hard to scratch.
