Hello, im in the market of buying my first "high end" knife. i like the contego for its size and deep carry. while CPM m4 is a great steel, its not a SS and it might rust on me when used as food prep knife and when i go kayaking. the rift i like also because its a ss and its G10 handle pattern. but the pocket clip seems to ride a little high. it would the perfect EDC knife if it has a low ride clip.

If you are going to be around a lot of water and doing food prep, I would suggest getting the Rift. Contact Benchmade and tell them that you want a Contego deep carry clip and they'll send it to you no problem. You'll have the best of both worlds, or at least for your intended usage. Good luck.

Not sure if it's new, but my contego came with a stainless steel, uncoated, deep carry pocket clip

^^^ I have an all black Contego and it came with a black deep carry clip. I think they try to match the clip color to the blade color, or at least as close as they can. The Contego clip can be installed on the Rift to make it deep carry.

I have the Rift and the Contego. Accelerator is right on when recommending the Rift for wet environments and food prep. The blade is thinner on the Rift, so that makes it a better slicer for foodstuffs.

I have the Contego and the Rift and prefer to carry the Rift because it is a bit more compact. Both knifes are pretty heavy duty and can get most jobs done. Just throw a deep carry clip on the Rift.
