I have a Benchmade/Emerson CQC-7 that is worn out and the very tip has been chipped off. I contacted Benchmade they said it was out of production and to contact Emerson. :rolleyes:Emerson said that teh Benchmade CQC-7s and the Emerson CQC-7s do not have interchangable blades. :jerkit:

My question is, does anyone know the differences in the blades ? They are the same thickness. Maybee the hole in the blade is a differnt size or something ?? I would really like to just buy a new blade for it, because the rest of the knofe is in excellent shape !!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated !!:D

They may look the same on the surface but they will be entirely different inside/underneath where you can't see. Thicknesses may be off just enough to matter but that can be made up with different thickness washers. The real differences are the center of the pivot hole and probably the diameter of the hole drilled, the grind contact area where the lock connects will be differing spots, the difference in the tang where the blade connects to the stop pin when opened will be different, the difference in the way the detent ball holds the blade closed is different with the side that works on the BM being opposite of the Emerson, and the blade lengths may be different as well as, the blade rest position when closed.

In short they are two different company makes. They won't work or interchange. Ones like yours show up on ebay frequently. Buy a used one with a good blade when it comes up. Thats about all you can do.
STR

Send it to someone to reprofile down to get the chip out. I'm surprised STR didn't offer. Perhaps he didn't want to advertise his services on a thread. But any custom maker or aftermarket modifier with a wheel (like STR) should be able to regrind it so you'll barely notice.

I could do it for a small sum, but I'd have to do it by hand with my Edgepro and it'd take a while.

You should post a close-up photo so we can see what your options are for fixing it rather than replacing the blade.

If its just a few mms off the tip there should be no reason why it cant be reprofiled.
The knife will be a bit shorter and look different but will be functional and just as good as new.

I can understand why BM and EKI are not really able to help but its still nippy for you.

Tom Krein would do a reprofile and a regrind. It will then be your sharpest knife.
