Benchmade custom Griptilian question?

Hi all,
A couple of years ago we ran a GAW in Whine & Cheese. The prize was a custom-made Griptilian. All of the features of the knife were picked out on a daily basis by the regulars who frequent that sub forum. One day we had a thread dedicated to the steel. A couple days later a thread dedicated to the grip. The next day did we want a thumb hole or stud. Each feature was posted in the subforum and the regulars would vote on it and the popular vote is what we put on the knife. One of the fellows who frequents that area won the knife so we had it laser engraved with Whine and Cheese etc.
That member has contacted me and the knife is sticking a little bit when it opens up but oiling it and maintaining it hasn't really fixed the problem. So does somebody know who I might send that to to get it looked at and repaired?

Graphite on the parts that lock the blade in place. If that's what you are sayin, it was a little confusing if it was sticking in the open or closed position? Or just in between?

Hi, I'm the fella that got the knife. It's sticking slightly the first quarter inch or so upon opening, making me flick the blade harder than I should to open it. I used Remoil, gun oil, on it, no help.

I would suggest trying to slightly loosen up the pivot screw if it's hanging up in the process of opening, granted that isn't the correct fix for it, but it'll work. Just be sure not to loosen it up to the part where it'll come out.

Send it into Benchmade. All of their knives have a wonderful warranty. It might be something as simple as one of the Omega springs. They'll fix it right up and put a brand new edge on it

The first thing I would do is wash it out with hot soapy water and see if that helps. In my experience the axis lock can get gummy if the wrong/excessive lube is used.

Remember with that though, you have to pay shipping, and it's completely up to their timeline. I don't know if that matters to you, but he is right. Benchmades warranty is top notch, and they will resolve the issue, it's just a matter of weather or not the issue is a big enough one for you to go through the rigmarole of sending it in. Best of luck!

I sent BM a email. I think I'll send it in for whatever adjustments are needed. Thanks for the help, guys.

Definitely send it in David!! I have sent a bunch in for blade swaps or tune ups and have gotten my knives back within 2 weeks.....including shipping.
They will automatically replace all hardware and springs. They'll also tune the knife and sharpen it.....no questions asked!
Also.....you only pay shipping one way.
Excellent customer service!!
Let us know how it goes!

Call them they are best when spoken to. Send it in for Life Sharp service and they will clean, lube and replace parts if asked. They have done two mini Grips and they came back like new except some scratches on the handles and blades from use. It took 10 business door to door for me in the Bay Area. Some East Coast members it took a bit longer due to shipping.

Do what Rycen said Dave, if that don't work give them a call, theyll see you right.

Kris

I did wash it with hot soapy water as Rycen suggested. No improvement. I'll call them today.
