Benchmade Delta Raider vs Delta Raider

I just received a second one of these great knives in the mail on Saturday. I know that it's come up before about the same knife going through changes over its life span, but when I got this one I had a hard time believing how much of a difference there was.

The knife on the bottom actually feels heavier than the top one. I don't know if it really is, but it feels heavier in the blade. I personally like the looks of the bottom one better, too.

Does anyone know which one came first? That's quite a change in grinds. Even the logos are in different spots on the front and back.

Here's a picture of the other side.

And one more of the front side again.

You're killing me...I wish I had the money to buy one of these when they were still available. Where are you finding these. They appear to be in NIB condition. I e-mailed Benchmade asking them if there was any possibility in the Delta Raider coming back into production. Nope. When you think about it, that's the only full sized combat blade Benchmade has made.

I'm a big Benchmade fan, but I must confess that I think they did a better job with their earlier fixed blades than they do now. I think the Nim. is a good knife but I like the older fixed blades so much more.

The only one I know of is the Delta Raider. The Fer-de-Lance was made by Pacific Cutlery(pre-Benchmade).

I believe the one with the wider curved blade flat came first. The one with the triangular blade flat was a redesign to help keep manufacturing costs down.

Benchmade also made a naked steel boot knife. Forgot the name of the model.

K williams: I just keep my eyes open everywhere I can. They are both NIB. That's why I grabbed a second one when I could. There is also the Axcalibur if you really want to consider it a fixed blade. :) The Fer-de-lance, Bushmaster & Kuzan Oda were all fixed blades, but were all Pacific Cutlery items.

Tonyccw: the only boot knife I know of was the PCC 705 model. If Benchmade put one out, it's another one I need to add to my list of things to find.

That PCC 705 is sweet. I've wanted one of those for awhile now - yet more reason to go back on the hunt.

... the Bushmaster in the original sheath. Hate the sheath. Love the knife! I have to admit that Benchmade made pretty good fixed blades for the money back then. Not that they were affordable to me although in retrospect they were primo bargains compared to what is offered now. Thanks for the flyer. I didn't know that pre-cursor to Benchmade, from Pacific Cutlery, were such knives available. Great stuff! Thanks! Ah, memories...

You should have seen the stuff that came out before that batch. Mostly production versions of Jody Samson's custom fixed blades. Of course, you can easily guess which one survived the cut.

Hi, The one on the Top came First... Circa 1991. When Pacific Cutlery Change there name to Benchmade. The Delta Raider Re-curve Jungle Fighter was one of Benchmade's very first Production Knife Releases. The Delta raider was one of the first re-curves style blades I have ever seen.. I had to have it. Retail 1991 $120.00 A very sweet knife not many come up for sale often. My Best..

What about the Offsider?

Never saw those before. Cool blades. You could weigh them at a bed bath and beyond while "shopping" for food scales. LOL
