Anyone have general tips for taking apart benchmades, why are they so finiky, I get the pivot just right with no blade play and I flip it 10 times and I get blade play, axis lock becomes a bit sticky over time. I love benchmades but it annoys me how I can never get it just right?

Yes, the pivots on axis lock knives are very finicky. Thread locker is a must on these knives. After applying some blue thread locker to the screw, carefully adjust the pivot to your liking. Open and close just one or two more times gently otherwise the screw will move. Then let the thread locker set.

That makes sense why it was coming loose, I wasn't letting the thread lock set, thank you!

Axis locks need cleaning if you use it for dirty things. Soap, water, air dry or WD40, lube, No disassembly needed. In general, BM are not made to be disassembled by anyone other than a cutler.

As an alternative, you can wrap the pivot screw with a tiny bit of teflon (plumbers) tape. Then it will help hold the screw from turning out and allow you to make slight adjustments when needed.

You can do the scale screws as well, but you'd have to have a heck of a lot more patience than me. Personally, I just loctite the scale screws when they need it.

Set your pivot and then leave the knife alone for 24 hours to let the loctite set.
^^ This...

Also, depending on your model, some models have screws on both sides of the blade stop that also need adjustment... I don't know if it's just the older models.

If openning the blade feels sticky within a few days after adjustment (assuming it's oiled properly) you might want to check that the Loctite didn't make it's way onto the washers. This happened to me when I used too much.

That's why I got the loctite stick (248 I believe?). No runs, easier to get it where you want, and not where you don't!
