Hello,

A friend has an old Benchmade/Emerson 975. the larger version with the stainless finish, or whatever you call the ats-34 finish. Short story, he lost it....found it again only its caked in surface rust but needs to take it apart in order to clean it properly. Its a really nice knife, something I would be working on now if I had one.

My question is, I noticed benchmade has a set of tools for their screws and such. Would the tool kit work on this model?

Its a very nice knife, and the funny thing is, even in its rusted knicked up state, it can still function as a knife.

Probably not. I just looked over my 970 and 975. The 975 has all allen wrench screws. The T9 Torx did fit both pivots though. I think a properly sized allen would also fit the pivot. My 975 had a mix of Torx and allen screws in the handle.

The clip screws on my 970 were phillips.

The Benchmade tool kit has a phillips and assorted Torx bits. I would recommend your friend take a close look at the actual handle screws. I think they will end up being very small allens.

The 970/975 came with three finishes: 1) Uncoated bead-blast, dull grey color, 2) Black teflon coating, 3) Titanium blade with carbide edge, duller grey in color with rough coating on backside edge of blade.

The best thing to do at this point would be to send it back into Benchmade to have them do a once over on it. They'll take it completely apart and make sure everything works correctly, fix what doesn't, and it will most likely work just like new. :)

will BM still have parts for the 975??? seems like i heard they didnt somewhere are another..................
