I ran into two articles with some decent info and photos. One article is on Benchmade automatics. And, the other one is on the Emerson Wave patent.

I didn't want to violate anyone's copyrights... So, I'll just post the links instead of the actual photos. And, you can just check out the articles and images on your own.

Take it easy.

I agree about the 9050. It's kind of old.

But, at the bottom of the Benchmade article, the photos of the limited edition 5000 Auto Axis and Police edition 9100 Auto Stryker were kind of cool.

So what about BM's 9051, the new AFO? I'm liking the beefier blade, larger button, and open design for ease of cleaning. Anyone like that one?

Then again, I love my 9050.

Beefynerd,
Wow! I didn't know they had new versions of the 9050 AFO. When did that happen?

That 9052 tanto looks great! The blade bulkiness to handle ratio just seem a lot more in balance than the 9050. Cool auto.

I've always liked the bullet-proof feel of the 9050. The knife is definitely military-grade. No question about that. But the blade, which is pretty robust, just never felt or looked equivalent to the super sturdy, thick grip. Anyways, just my humble opinion.

You are right, though. The 9051/9052 is a sweet knife. Much improved! I like the open grip and new glass breaker. The "glass breaker" can also be used as an impact/blunt instrument control device. Remember when Benchmade used to market the old full-size Reflex 2000 that way? I guess it wasn't politically correct so they dropped that verbiage way back and I don't think they ever said that about the smaller 2550.

9052 tanto, damn. Now I have another knife to save up for.

Bizguy,

I'm pretty sure BM released this for their 2009 product line up. I remember seeing a glimpse of the 9051 last year and I was really excited for it. Once I saw the 9052 though...I was hooked further. I'm usually not one for tantos for my personal preference...but that thing made me drool.

I remember that full-size Reflex! My friend still has one of those and I still laugh that BM made such a huge auto. I love it though. Personally...I wish they made the 610 Rukus into an auto...I just think the thing would literally fly out of your hand the moment you deploy the blade...
