I posted this in the Emerson forum yesterday and figured I would get at least one post, but I didn't, So here is my question. Are the early Benchmade Emerson designs very desirable? I have a CQC7, its a user, but not since it went back to BM for a face lift. I like it a lot and it was a grail knife for a long time. Please give me some insight on this knife.

I dig them, they are like anything haters and someone who likes em,the chisel grind is a turnoff to some, but i have 12 some nib.........all old knives are great.....

I much prefer the Benchmade version of the CQC than the Emerson version. The torx screws on the BM models didn't need any adjusting or constant fiddling. I have a beater model of the 975S and it still locks up nice and tight with a smooth as glass deployment. The Emerson model I owned always needed tightening or loosening of the pivot screw, I eventually got rid of it.

the most classical - grandfather of tactical Tantos.
this knife wrote history.
i have a beater 975, that i used many years, but i always cleaned and lubed it.
insights ? those 975 / 970 become more and more collectibles.
send it back to BM - have it adjusted and sharpened.....and keep it in your pocket.

i like the BM version also much better then the actual Emerson.

Cool Emerson. I like the BM version too. I have a BM Emerson with a Warren Thomas blade in it... a WT7.:D

I cut the tip of my thumb off with that model Benchmade as soon as I had the opportunity 12 or so years ago. It was my dad's and he still has it. Didn't expect the blade to swing shut so quick when I was unlocking it. Ouch.

My 975S gets carried as part of my EDC rotation. Yes, the chisel grind is a pain, sometimes. OTOH, it also means I only need to sharpen one side of the blade. :D

I use Tuf Cloth to protect the knife, as bead blasted blades are notorious for rusting.

It is the largest knife I carry on a regular basis. I find the titanium liners help keep the weight down, which is a plus. I really don't enjoy the feeling of carrying an anvil in my pocket.

I have wanted one for a while. I have a little Emerson collection. The BM has eluded me.

I like the old Benchmade CQC7. Used to own one, lent it to girlfriend (ex girlfriend now), never seen mine again :(

I like it more than Emerson CQC7. Just feels better in hand, and IMHO it has better lock.

i prefer the EKI version, the handles are pretty close to the same IIRC, locks might be a bit better, maybe, possibly, i have had issues with a LL on a 975 myself so they arent perfect lol while i have not had any with a EKI CQC7.

but other than tip up vs down ( i very much prefer up FWIW) and ATS34 vs 154CM (which are pretty much the same thing)they are pretty similar to one another, at least EKI's non waved models.

i always liked the longer 975 vs the 970, but have had several of both and alternated between a 975Sbt and a 800S for almost 2 yrs and finally decided i slightly prefferred the 800S mostly due to the fact i liked the 800's handle a bit better.
