I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the benchmade ERT-1 tool. I am looking to for something to put in my turnouts that can cut seatbelts, wiring thats in car panels etc. The glass breaker also seems like a nice touch. I really want to know if this thing will stand up to being used and abused. I have had a great experience with benchmades in the past but I am little skeptical about this due to its low cost and being made in china. So what do you guys think about this tool?

Have have no personal experience of the ERT-1, but it seems quite a large tool for what it does.
The China thing would put me off too.
I carry a ResQMe and a folding knife (a Benchmade 550HG) in my fire jacket.

I have the ERT-1 . Bought 4 of them one for me to keep in the truck and one for my wife's car. Gave one to my Dad and my best friend. The ERT seem very well made. Very sharp , the led light works good you don't have to hold the button in for it to stay on. It's on or off , The glass breaker seems strong tried it on my tool box it left a small dent. I would like to go to a junkyard and try it on a car door glass. All in all seems like a nice tool for 25.00. www.gpknives.com has them for 25.00.

Seems pretty cool - I have a rescue hook in my car now, may eventually replace it (or add!) a ERT.

Like Byrd stuff it's China, but it's very well made China...

Rescue hook locks up tight and is very sharp. Comes with a case which is a nice touch. I haven't used it on any glass (thankfully) but it punches a stack of card board/phone book easily and with force. Feels solid, I like the res-Q-me but the ERT-1 seems easier to keep a hold of in an emergency.

I use the ERT-1 at work every day to cut 6 mil shrink wrap and multiple layer plastic/paper packaging on heavy industrial parts. I also use it to easily cut 2" wide tie down straps that are much heavier than seat belts. It gets abused with dirt, grease and oil. All I need to do is touch up the blade and it stays sharp and keeps working. The light has survived many Zep Orange cleanser washings to remove grease and oil. The light works well to help read stamped SN#'s on the parts. I have had to replace the batteries only once in the last 6 months. I have not had the chance to try the window breaker however. The time and frustration it has saved me at work is well worth the $25 spent.
