Benchmade fans about the SpyderFly

Bluntly put Dave. You know, BM suspiciously dropped 75% of their Bali line just weeks before the Spyderfly's grand unveiling.

Fraidy cats. :D

I love BM and all but it seems some of those guys are talking out of their ass. One commented that he just buys balis to have and he doesn't flip them. Imo a person that never flips a bali can't really tell a GOOD bali from a bad one. Also I think those guys are being a little too protective of the BM line. I think the spyderfly will be a great hit and it's low price will reel in a bunch of new bali enthusiasts.

Who cares?

Why would you even bring that thread up?

Unless you are hoping to start a pissing match between the boards?

The oh-so-familiar smell of urea... j/k :p
Funny, plenty of spydernut doesn't really mind BMs though. I don't mind. I like some of their stuff actually, just never getting around to get one.

Oh, I agree. I love Spyderco and Benchmades. I have quite a few knives from both companies.

Shiden-Kaj, I'm sorry if I came across as rude.... I don't think your intentions in posting the link was to stir up emotions and sit back and watch the chaos.... I just know how Spydernuts and Benchmadeaholics (Benchmadeiacs?) can get when someone starts talking smack about their favorite knife company.

I love BM balisongs.

I love Spydefly.

Only a fool is too attached to one brand and refuse to explore others.

AAh, how many times have you heard that Spydies are ugly? I have, aver since I've owned them. The proof will be in the pudding..Also, A long time ago I posted ab out the severe lack of Mid-priced Bali's...and now I have another answer..Wierd--Joe

I think experience will show that the Spyderfly has superior ergonomics as a balisong flipper and user.
If it fails to dominate the market, it will become, with time, a high-buck, prestige collector's item; not just for its scarcity but for its functionality as a self-defense weapon.
That said, I predict substantial market success for the Spyderfly.

Warning: thread drift.

My ultimate collection of knives lacks only three knives; or four if Spyderco ever makes an MBC Native.

1. Spyderfly

2. Fairbairn-Sykes X Dagger

http://www.nzknives.co.nz/xdagger.htm

3. Extrema Ratio Nemesis

4. Spyderco MBC Native

Two out of four.

What a trip if Spyderco would make an authentic X Dagger (or a Pattern 1) with an S30V or VG-10 blade and a knurled brass grip (for those who find these knives a mystery, the index finger goes in front of the guard and the user holds the knife in a combined hammer/paintbrush grip).

Three out of four. :)

I think Ken's right, particularly about that first part. Sal and Company, as per usual, collected heavy input from the balisong community before producing the 'Fly (first use of hip knickname :D ;)), and regards this project as an important one . Some of the posters on the BM thread I've never seen on the Balisong Forum, and may have minimal experience with balisongs. Others are regulars who simply prefer the more classic look, and some are of the "I like most everything" school of thought. Key to all this is that virtually no one has had one in their possession long enough to substantiate their opinion, including those of us who have flipped it a little. It's design will grow on people, and it's price will facilitate purchases by many who have never considered balisongs before. Many of those who say they won't get one will probably give in. Some of you will get hooked on manipulations, which will start by "hey, how do you open and close these things in the traditional manner?" Come on over to the Balisong Forum and we'll show you. I've collected Spydies and balisongs for some time now, so I'm in Seventh Heaven with this offering. Many of you are already into balisongs, but it's great to know that those of you who are primarily Spyderco collectors will be getting a balisong, in some cases your first. Once you open that door, though, be careful. You'll have another forum to attend to.
Almost forgot, overall the Spyderfly is a big hit on the Balisong forum.

Storm Clouds: it's wasn't my intention to cause problems between the forums, between BM and Spyderco. I just found it interesting to read what the BM enthusiasts think about the SpyderFly.

BM makes some fine knives too. Their balisongs are among the best in the world. It's not a heresy to admit that, even in a Spyderco Forum.
OTOH, some of the BM forumites liked the Spyderfly just as well as some Spyderco fans disliked it.
I think that's a great thing, variety brings spice to our life ;)
