Do knives that are stamped as "first production run" with a serial number, worth any more than a non-production run knife (same model)?

Recently saw a Griptillain, was #75 out of 1000 (?). I would like to ad a Griptillian to my collection, but does the special "first production run" stamping on the blade ad any value to a collector?

Thanks.

If numbered first production knives are made with any special materials that are not used on the future production runs, that could add some value. Serial numbered knives are sometimes worth more, but when there 1000 of them, I don't think that very much value will be added.

Hey Steve, I have a grip, a mini grip and a runt up fpr trade. I noticed you were asking about these so if interested, drop me a line. Stay safe, josh

Personally, I would sooner get limited editions of an already established knife which has some "value added" feature -- like better steel and carbon fiber scales -- compared to the regular model. Even then, it depends on how much the run is limited to. I mean limited to 100 is quite impressive compared to, say, limited to 2000.

I mean what's so great about first production runs on a mass produced production folder cranked out in a factory (I say this from a subjective rhetorical POV)? To me it's a marketing gimmick. I mean I just have to wait a bit longer and get the same product, perhaps at a lower price, with any manufacturing kinks worked out.

First production runs make as much sense to me as people who line up a month ahead of time to watch the latest Star Wars release just so they can be first in line. :barf: Then again, I'm a hopeless laggard* and not very romantic.

*In marketing terminology, "laggard" refers to that cynical market segment who will not purchase a product until that product has matured and fully established. The risk-taking people who run out and buy them immediately are "early adopters".

Steve, if anyone offers you a new Acura in trade for your Griptilian, please let me know. I have #203 of 1000!
